lungs feel sore/bruised in the morning...normal?

Post by bucksbeek » Thu Jan 17, 2013 12:09 pm

Hi. As I've posted before I'm trying to figure out this whole cpap thing. I've been having issues wearing the mask for long periods of time, but I notice when I am able to I wake up Anf my lungs feel like they are bruised. It goes away during the day but then O notice it again when I'm back on my machine at full pressure. Is this normal? Is my pressure to high? Thanks.

I had the same sensation the first few nights. I was not used to breathing so deeply or lying in the same position for so long.
It went away after a few nights. It is not uncommon. We fall into unhealthy shallow breathing, and it harms us.
My machine trained me to breathe more deeply in just a few nights.

It is not your lungs but the muscles you use to breathe. They are getting workout breathing out against the pressure and just like legs muscles when you start to run daily they get sore.

What is your 'full pressure'? What machine are you using?

For the first 2-3 weeks of CPAP use, my lungs felt like I had run a marathon overnight.

The feeling gradually went away as my chest muscles and lungs became accustomed to the process.

Well I have a S8 Escape II loaner right now set at 12. I have a s9 autoset on it's way which will be auto set to 5-15. Haven't really been able to evaluate the "ideal" pressure because I've been having a lot of issues adjusting to cpap therapy, but to answer the question, yea I'm at 12 right now with a an EPR of 3.

Just make sure it's an AutoSet!
If they try to slip in an Escape Auto; SEND IT BACK!

Hi,

This is normal, especially if you do not regularly do cardio exercises. You are breathing more deeply with CPAP, which makes you muscles work a bit harder. This should go away after a short period of time. For me, it was about 3 days. Others report a week or two. Once you get adapted to breathing more deeply, it will feel odd to not use the CPAP machine.

+1
Almost a let down taking off the mask in the morning, seems sooo much harder to breathe without it.
