Is this mask any good?

Post by hoseheadtoo » Fri Jan 14, 2005 9:46 am

I'm a newby to this forum. I've learned a lot from all of you. I wish I had found it a long time ago.

Has anyone used the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask before and is it any good? I'm a mouth breather and my DME put me in this one but it seems to leak unless I have it quite tight and then I get redness an soreness.

If there's one better please suggest it.

Cheers ... and thanks

Hi! And welcome to the forum!

I use the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask and I really like it. The key for me was to keep adjusting straps until it was the absolute loosest without leakage. The other thing that helped a lot was the adjustable forehead pads. I had to keep working to find a combination of strap tightness and the angle to keep the leaks away.

Where are you finding you have the most leaks? I found that I was leaking near my eyes. So I adjusted the forehead pad bar (for lack of a better word) down so that the mask fit tighter near the bridge of my nose.

Now for the redness, I'm assuming that you're talking about the bridge of your nose. I use a small piece of moleskin on the bridge of my nose and it works well. You can find moleskin in the footcare area of any drug store. Just cut a small piece to fit the bridge of your nose.

I hope this helps. You'll find that different people have different experiences with different masks. Keep trying until you find one you like.

Good luck!

Jeanne

I agree with Jeanne...wonderful advice about how the Ultra Mirage FF mask's straps can be relatively loose. The forehead adjustment thingy is much more important, to get the best angle of mask to face. It's also a good idea to be laying down in sleeping position while making all adjustments.

Of course, if the mask shown in your avatar picture, hoseheadtoo, is what the DME palmed off on ya as a ResMed mask, all bets are off as to whether you can get it fixed the way you want it, or not. But at least you're prepared if the dog passes gas during the night!
