I've had this one for around 3 years and have never before had any issues. This issue started the night after it was moved back from the summer house to the city. I'm in a bit of a precarious position as to getting any kind of help with it (apart from you very kind people) because I got while I lived in Denmark. There it's free to get if you've been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Since then I've moved to Argentina and don't really know what kind of help I can get here, even if I pay for it. Tonight I'll try putting a towel under it but I don't have high hopes. The machine is in the same place it has always been (at least for the last 6 months) and has worked perfectly until recently. Thanks for all your input and I'll let you know tomorrow what happened;-)

The warranty only is for 2 years anyway.

You might try switching to cpap mode and see if the truckload of snores shows up on it.
Say around 8 or 9 cm cpap.

I suppose the most important thing is that you are sleeping well and no one is reporting freight train snores and you are feeling more rested. But this sure is weird.
Even supine sleeping doesn't normally peg out at the max pressure and stay there all night.
I am at a loss for any further ideas.

Ok, so something has happened!

Last night, and during a nap today, I slept with a towel underneath the machine. I also changed how the little filter on the back was positioned because I remembered that the problems had started after I changed this filter. Surprise, everything seems to back to normal now:

So, tonight I'm gonna sleep without the towel underneath the machine to see what the root cause of the problem was. I'll let you know tomorrow;-)

Maybe the filter wasn't positioned quite right and caused the vibrations when air was being sucked in.
This is a first...so I will try to remember this in case someone else comes up with a gazillion snores.

So, I've been sleeping a couple of nights without having the towel underneath the machine and everything seems to be back to normal. I can only conclude that the crazy VS index had something to do with the placement of the filters. I have taken a few more screen dumps and some pictures of the filters:

This is how I have the filters installed now

First a "sponge" which filters larger objects like bikes and babies and then a finer one underneath. It was apparently this filter that was giving me grief.

This fluffy side should face away from the machine

This sort of woven side should face towards the machine

I have no idea how the guys who make these filters intend them to fit, I can only say what worked for me;-) Btw, this filter is only 2 weeks old. There's a lot of air pollution here in Buenos Aires:-(

Once again, thanks a lot for all your input and great ideas

Those tabs on the white fine filters can present a problem sometimes with the PR S1 machines.
Respironics has switched over to a slightly different white fine filter without the tab an construction is a little different.
You can cut the tab off if you want to. That's what I did when I was using up the tabbed filters (for the older M series) I had in my PR S1 machine.
You are right...fuzzy soft side out towards the foam filter.
Also don't forget to wash the foam filter.
