New computer/old software

Sorry but I have no idea if that would work or not.
If you poke around in your Viewer files there may be something about exporting and then poke around in Basic and see if that have anything for importing.
They are 2 entirely different programs. One for the patient and one for the DME or doctor office.
Pro had some export/import features but those were between Pro versions.

You can copy the entire Viewer program folders and files onto a SD card and paste it onto the 64 bit computer. Then open the folder and find the application exe file to open the program. Viewer will then work so you would at least have the program on the new computer. It should still work for importing also. That's the workaround I was talking about. The problem is with the installer and if you bypass the installer Viewer will work just fine.

So I guess you can try it and see what happens. I don't recall anyone doing what you are suggesting but maybe someone has and will see your question here.

My son loaded w8 on his w7 machine and it crashed his hard drive those of you that plan on upgrading to w8 from w7 beware ......luckily his laptop was new in April so it was still on warranty.

You need the entire directory structure from "Program Files\respironics" that viewer was installed in, not just the .exe file.

Just got an offer for Windows 8 for $39.95, from Microsoft. Perhaps it's not selling as well as they would've liked?

I think I'll just continue saving for a Mac....

My son fell for that offer.....he downloaded it and it fried his hard drive. Lucky for him he had bought his computer in April and it was still on warranty. They replaced the hard drive and gave it back to him with his original windows 7 but without the windows 8 he bought ........now he has the "fun" of re-instating all of his info . I have windows 8 on my new laptop and I am getting used to it...told him to wait until all the bugs were out of windows 8 and stick with the windows 7 for awhile.

You may be saving for a while longer if you're waiting for the newer model that was due out last year.

I read another story recently about an Apple plant in China shutting down temporarily but can't remember where the link is now.

Anyway. I switched to Ubuntu (linux) a few years ago and never looked back. I did have to install Virtual Box on top of my Ubuntu and load an old copy of XP in order to run my CPAP and BP monitoring Windoze only software. I'm happy with the setup and Ubuntu is Free. I have 3 legal copies of XP Pro. I was going to sell two of them but now I think I may keep them a while longer

Does Encore Basic have the capability to change the machine settings (prescription) via the card?

I used to make such changes using Encore Pro. They would take effect when I put the card in the CPAP. It appears the "Prescription" feature in "Basic" is just a notation of what numbers were prescribed. New settings are not transferred to the machine (unless I'm doing something wrong!)

If I go into the machine and make new changes manually, they are overwritten back to what is saved on my card. Do I need to re-format the card to get rid of them? And can I do that in EncoreBasic?

I still have Pro on my old machine, so I COULD hook it all up and and change the 'script on the card...but I'd have to do that every time I need a change. I'm hoping Basic has the capability and I just need to learn how/where to do that.

Basic has the capability to do what you want with the RX settings.
The directions are in the Help section contents under adding a prescription.

I don't have the Help files.

But I can get into the Rx section and make changes. However those changes don't seem to make it to the machine when I put the card in.

I forgot you don't have the Help files.
See if this below helps. I am not sure what you have access to and have tried. I never wanted to use the software to make changes so never went down that road.




Adding Prescriptions
Used to create the prescriptions for therapy devices and other accessories (e.g., masks, humidifiers, etc.).



Notes: Prescriptions should be made only by trained medical professionals. Be sure to clear the memory of any previously used therapy devices, SmartCards or SD cards prior to reissuing them to other patients. Consult the documentation included with the therapy device for instructions on clearing its memory. Use the Data Card Utilities to clear the memory of SmartCards and SD cards.



Device Prescription
To add a device prescription:

Prepare a data card to contain new prescription data.

Locate the patient on the Patients window.

Click on the patient's name.

The Patient Detail window opens.

Click the Prescription tab then click on Add New in the Sleep Therapy pane.

You can choose between a Sleep device or a Vent device. (In this example, Sleep device is used; the steps for Vent devices are very similar.)

Click the Add New link in the Sleep Therapy group.

Select a mode from the Mode drop-down list.

Select a device from the Device drop-down list.

The devices listed are applicable to the Mode chosen in the previous step.

Select an attribute from the Mode Attribute drop-down list. The attributes listed are applicable to the device chosen in the previous step.

(Optional) Enter the Serial Number of the device.

Select an Issued On date using the calendar control.

Additional device settings relevant to the device appear.

Enter/select values in the Device Settings group as applicable.

Click the Save button.

The pane is refreshed to show all prescription settings.

Click the Send button.

(Optional) Click the Erase prescription after successful delivery option if you want to remove the prescription data from the card after the prescription is delivered.

Click the Write prescription button to put the prescription data on the data card.

The prescription data is written to the data card followed by a "Prescription delivered" confirmation message.

Click Exit to close the Data Card Utilities window.

Aha! My window wasn't big enough to display the "Send" button. Without clicking that, the new settings show in the window, but don't make it to the card.
