My machine moans more than me in bed!

Post by SusieG » Mon Dec 31, 2012 4:44 pm

My ResMed S9 Auto Set makes a moaning sound when I exhale. Seems to stop when my breathing slows as I am going to sleep. Anyone else heard this?

A lot of people have reported interesting sounds from their S9 on exhalation. My machine was totally silent until fairly recently when it started a low "whistle" whenever I exhale. It's low enough that I've gotten desensitized to it so it doesn't interfere with going to sleep. There was a thread about this not too long ago -- stay tuned, others will likely post about their S9's various exhale noises.

Edit: p.s., I love the way you titled your post -- made me laugh!

Sounds like you need to start a program to increase the level of your moaning in bed so that you can no longer hear the machine

Susie, one thing that came up in that previous "exhale noise" thread was that sometimes the filter needs to be repositioned and the noise goes away. You could try readjusting your filter -- it did not eliminate the noise in my case, but it's certainly an easy thing to try. I recall someone else said that changing their EPR setting made a difference.

FWIW, I'd rather hear moaning than the whistling I hear. My machine must have intimacy issues.

Some call it stimulus desensitization, some call it neurological reprogramming, some call it positive visualization, some call it psychological re-adaptation - and so on and so on -ad infinitum. I just tell people: "You simply get used to your machine sounds after awhile". Exception: Unless it's broken . Ker-thunk, ker-thunk equals not good.

Give it several weeks and see if I'm not right. BTW... Love all the 'moaning' jokes, I haven't seen that line of inquiry before.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Ha, ha... good timing on your post. I read your post on Monday night, New Year's Eve, and just then my neighbors started shooting off fireworks until beyond midnight. I took your advice and rooted around in my camping kit until I found some old malleable 'silicone earplugs'. They worked GREAT.

Yep, I live near a train, and when it sounds its horn in the middle of the night, I don't wake up. Now, if the Conductor continually lays on the horn, I certainly wake up because that is not normal. I imagine its the same for those who may live on a busy street, or near a fire station and have sirens going off regularly.

The cord on the sleep phones is too short, considering your are expected to wear them in bed!

I just got my sleepphone in yesterday. The cord is pretty long actually. It goes down to my calf. I forgot to unplug my phone when I woke up to go potty and my phone was hanging around the calf area when I got off of the bed They are more comfortable than any other headphone since its light in weight and can be used for a side sleeper like me.

I found that the machine/mask noise adds to realism of the ocean wave sounds I was listening to I used to get irritated with the exhaust air making contact with my arm if my arm was in the way, now it is wind from the ocean current

They have 6 free 30min tracks to download.

But I can't continue to use the sleepphones until spring or summer. The furnace makes too much noise, its right outside of my door. I will need to wear ear plugs until its warmer.
