This is odd -- I switched to a nasal mask the other day, after being on nothing but FFMs since I started cpap a few months ago. And my nightly pressures, for the past two nights, have really dropped dramatically. From roughly 9 - 14 or 15 on the FFMs (most recently a Hans Rudolph V2), now down to 10 and 9 on the nasal mask, an Activa LT.
I know 1 or 2 nights of use is not conclusive proof of a difference, but can different mask types affect average pressures (on an autopap machine)?
I will say that the Activa is far more comfortable, and less tightly worn than the V2, but can this alone be the cause? Or do nasal masks/pillows in general require less cpap pressure to keep an airway open than do FFMs?
New mask, new average pressures?

Re: New mask, new average pressures?
I noticed significantly higher pressure with a full face mask; as opposed to nasal pillows.
So far haven't seen any research, though.

Just make sure your machine is set up for a nasal or full face mask.

Re: New mask, new average pressures?
I know this is possible on the S9 but I have a PR560 and I don't think there is a setting for this(?). I know there is a special resistance level setting one can change on the 560, however that is only if one uses PR's own masks. Of which, alas, the two I own are not as comfortable for me as the Resmeds.Sheriff Buford wrote:Just make sure your machine is set up for a nasal or full face mask.
