new masks

Post by Ellen » Tue May 02, 2006 10:39 am

NightHawkEye - Have purchased 3 new masks since UMIIFFM - Have an Activa Nasal Mask (favorite so far); Swift Nasal Pillows and a ComfortLiteII

I get the best results from the Activa Nasal Mask but it made a horrible sore across the bridge of nose and a deep cut right below nose - both got infected so I used Swift with pretty good results excepting the irritation on inside of nares - got the ComfortLiteII, but I can't seem to get a very good nares seal with it no matter how I adjust it and no matter how many extra straps I use around it.

Finally put moleskin ON THE MASK (Activa) on the inside hard part of cushion - the part that was cutting into me and have started using Flonase in addition to my already long bedtime ritual of clearing nasal passages. This has allowed my pressures to stay lower (AutoCPAP) which doesn't blow my mouth tape off near as bad.

My biggest fight right now is that I am sensitive to ALL tape adhesive (and believe me I have tried them all) and I fight with mouth leaks all night long. I have just ordered the Nose Breathe in spite of the negative feedback it got - maybe it will work as well for me as it did for Kermit.

Just started CPAP April 4 so have a lot to learn!!! Also am on 5L supplemental oxygen so have to work with that also.

Where are you losing the seal, Ellen? In the back of the nares? I suppose you might already have seen my fix for that though.

NHE - I did see your fishline fix for the ComfortLite nasal pillows, but have been having such good luck with the Activa - I copied off your instructions and put them in bag with comfort lite to try next time I need to use it.

I thought the new post on using denture adhesive vs mouth taping was incredible - can't wait to try it.
