Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
Hi all, I'm trying to help a dear relative who just had her first night with cpap last night. She doesn't have a climateline hose yet and she said the incoming air from her regular hose was cold and uncomfortable. I've used my climateline from day one so I'm not sure about this -- can you adjust the temperature with the S9 when using a regular hose? If so, I can talk her through how to change her settings.
Also, I fear she was given a brick Escape -- if I'm right will she at least be able to see her AHI on the machine display?

With the Escape...I don't believe she will see anything but compliance data......no AHI or Leak info.

Re: Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
There’s no real temperature adjustment when using a regular hose. I use a regular hose and have an S9 autoset. I have the option of turning on the humidifier heater on to warm up the water before I turn the machine on. I power on the machine and turn the dial to the humidifer setting then press and hold the button for a few seconds. I turn the heater on about 15 minutes before I start the machine and the air is much warmer. She could also try a hose cover.

Re: Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
Thanks Pap -- I just took off my CL hose and attached a regular hose to see for myself that the temp icon disappears from the display. Now I can explain to my relative what's going on and what she can do to have more temp control. She went with a brick & mortar DME and surprise surprise they did not tell her about the CL hose (I'm afraid they gave her an S9 brick, too, but I'm not sure yet).Pap365 wrote:There’s no real temperature adjustment when using a regular hose. Re: Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
Thank you for this info, I just switched from an older model Good Knight to the S9 auto set. I love it! so much smoother and quieter. Your info just filled me in on how to preheat my water in the tub! Thanks again. It's a great CPAP machine.
Re: Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
What is a healthy temp. To keep your water at? Does to warm lead to bacteria growth or anything? I have kept it between 80-82 degrees cause I live in the northeast and has been getting colder at nights.

Hi CJay and welcome to the forum. Glad this info helped. Do you need a link to the clinical menu to access all the features of your Autoset?CJay wrote:What is a healthy temp. To keep your water at? A healthy temp is whatever temp gives you the most comfortable sleep. I usually have my temp set between 80 and 82 degrees most of the time now too. In the very hot summers here I turn the temp down a little. A warmer temp should not cause bacterial problems unless you are letting the hose remain wet after use or never cleaning your humidifier. Be sure to leave the hose on in the a.m. so it can run the cooldown program which helps dry the hose out.

@Kaiasgram glad I could help. Let’s hope your relative didn’t get a brick!
@CJay welcome! I like the S9 too. Glad I could help. I don’t worry about bacteria in the water because I use distilled water.

Re: Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
Thanks to you both! I appreciate the help. I would like that link, the more info about my product the better I can utilize it! I set my humidity level between 80-82 also. I have been using water that I have boiled in my tea kettle? Should I switch to distilled?
Re: Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
You're welcome! Yes, I would switch to distilled/deionized water. Here's a link to setup for the S9. I think there is another but don't have it bookmarked. If you still have questions we can get that other link too.CJay wrote:Thanks to you both! I appreciate the help. I would like that link, the more info about my product the better I can utilize it! You asked earlier about humidity -- I change mine a bit depending on the weather and humidity in the air, but usually I have it set at 4.0, sometimes 4.5.

Re: Adjusting temp on the S9 with reg. hose
A hose wrap will help with the air temperature until she can get a climateline hose.
