Facial Cleansers and Moisturizers

Post by Michelle P » Thu Dec 13, 2012 12:38 am

Later today, I have my appointment with the respiratory therapist and will receive my CPAP. From what I have been reading on various forums I may have to change my beauty regime. I was wondering what everyone uses to clean their face, remove makeup and what products. I love the Murad products but am thinking I can no longer use the night time products. I would appreciate suggestions and recommendations.

Remind us what mask you're using. With my nasal pillow mask I'm able to continue using facial moisturizing lotion at night, I just avoid right under my nose. If you're using a nasal or full face mask, others will help -- I think you do have to be more careful about what you use with those.

I will get everything tomorrow as I am a newbie. I am a mouth breather so I am anticipating that I will end up with a full face mask.

Ah, that's right. Did you decide against trying a chin strap?

If you do start with a full face mask, you may need to avoid moisturizing lotions at night after you wash your face. However women here have talked about dabbing some 99% aloe gel on which actually helps the FF mask to seal, and at the same time the aloe conditions the skin.

Being a hosehead doesn't mean we have to cease all beautification efforts! Good luck with the appointment.

If you use a mask liner with your full face mask you should be able to use whatever skin creams you want, assuming that you let them absorb a bit into the skin rather than leaving a wet layer of cream on your face... the only downside is that you'll have to wash the liner frequently, and have at least 2 of them...

See padacheek.com for great quality mask liners.

When I used the nasal mask IQ, I put my serum & lotion on about an hour before bed, then let it soak in real good. I never had any problem with sealing or silicone breakdown. But, I like the idea of using a mask liner even better. Randy J is on to something there, since you wouldn't have to wait an hour, or in my case if I forgot to put on ahead of time, I would skip a night and my skin looked like I skipped the next day.

Another alternative is Bare Minerals nite 'mineral powder', I can't remember the name, but go to their website & look up the nite time line of products. I used it at one time, but I needed a stronger serum/lotion/creme plan to keep combating wrinkles. I have always looked younger than I am, and hope to keep it that way. The powder does have a moisturizing property, but has no 'tightner' that you get from a serum first plan of attack. Currently I'm using Wei East (which includes a creme on, water to take off cleanser), but as you know the line of products is a personal choice.

Good luck on your first nite with your new machine & mask. Your question about cosmetic facial care is a good one, since you will have your plan in place for that, its one more thing you don't have to worry about.

Just a quick once-over with an unscented baby wipe.
If it's OK on an infant's tush, what harm can it do to my face?

I looked up the Murad line (I wasn' familiar with it), since it seems to be a light, not greasy/low oils/low moisturizing line of products, perhaps it won't be a problem, anyway, if you let it soak in before masking up.

I'd still go with the pad-a-cheek liners if possible, another barrier between skin & mask and it might soak up the moisturizer, giving you extra use of the product by soaking it up, keeping the mask away from the product, and giving you extra benefit of the product, since it will probably sit on the pad-a-cheek liner, giving you a boost of your cosmetic effect.

See, I'm one that wants to get what I can from my beauty product. Let us know how it goes,
Jen
