Question about PR System One REMstar Plus CPAP Machine

Post by corybodette » Sat Dec 08, 2012 5:06 am

i am looking into the PR System One REMstar Plus CPAP Machine with C-Flex as my first machine. i was wondering what it offers for data.
cpap.com says that the machine has the following data capabilities
Display: Compliance VIC. 7-Day and 30-Day averages
SD Card >1 year (daily details with flow waveforms)
On-board: up to 6 months
Compliance Meter Breathing detection

does this mean that it is detailed info like leaks and things like that

No detailed information about leaks, just how long did you wear it. For that, look at the REMstar Pro or Auto (460 or 560).

OOPS!! "(daily details with flow waveforms)" is wrong. There are no flow waveforms on the PRS1 Plus models. I suspect they took some specs from Respironics about the whole line and copied them to all the PRS1 models. cpap.com is an honest dealer.

(I don't work for them, just a happy customer and user of this web site.)

Get at least the PRS1 Pro machine. The PRS1 Plus will do a fine job of blowing air, but about the only data it records is when you used the machine. No apnea data, no leaks, etc. No indication at all of how your therapy is going.

The PRS1 PRO is the cheapest PRS1 machine that records any therapy data to speak of. It records apneas, leaks, airflow waveforms, periodic breathing, hypopneas, RERA, leaks, flow limitations, and probably a few other things I've forgotten. The PLUS machine records none of this.

I'd strongly recommend buying the PRS1 Auto. It's usually only a little bit more than the PRS1 Pro, and it will do manual CPAP if you want that.

The 60 series PRS1 machines are different mainly in that they can use a heated hose to keep moisture from forming in the hose and giving you "rainout."

The older PRS1 machines are fine machines, but don't do the heated humidifier.

Be sure to phone them and get the best price, not the minimum advertised price on the web site.

The S9 AutoSet and Elite are also great machines, but probably a bit more pricey.

PRS1 Pro is a BIG step up from PRS1 Plus. PRS1 Auto is better if you can swing the bucks.

If you're not going through insurance, I don't see much reason to collect data from a Plus machine. All that tells is when you're using it, not whether it's treating your apnea. Insurance wants "compliance" data so they can deny coverage if you don't use it.

If you've got insurance, you may not be able to get reimbursed for an online purchase.

Don't even consider the Plus, it's dataless, you will save $$$ in the long run by having data to work with, less doc visits, less sleep lab visits. If you are buying out of pocket check our hosts CPAP.com , or gently used at Second WInd.com. The local DME is likely to have inflated prices, but if you have some insurance coverage it may be OK, just crunch the numbers. The older PRSys 1 Auto or Pro have heated humidifier but not heated hose like the newer 60 series. Either would be a good. you may get a better deal on the older Sys1. I'd get an Auto if I could. As the other have said...the PR S1 Remstar Plus doesn't gather anything except hours of use for compliance purposes.
" Encore Data Management and Reporting

On-board memory has been added to the CPAP as well as storing information on a generic SD Memory card and reads through any SD card reader. This machine only tracks and shows compliance data through the on machine display or through the Encore Software. " Compliance is hours of use that are greater than 4 hours per night.

I take it from your comments that using a brick and mortar DME store is too costly for you and that is why you are shopping online??? And thus looking for the cheapest machine that will do what you want?
Is this $ amount pretty much the max you can spend? The Plus costs $369 and that includes the humidifier which does make it fairly inexpensive but it won't give you any data at all to help you evaluate your therapy?

For $499 you can get the PR S1 Auto IQ machine and humidifier.
For roughly another 100 to 150 you can get a full time APAP model 550 or 560.

How much money can you afford to come up with? One of the forum members had a couple of PR S1 model 550 machines with very low hours on them not long ago. I don't remember what the price was for them but you could send him a private message and ask him. I can't quote a price because I don't remember what he told me but I think it was in the $350 range for the machine with humidifier. Hours of use were less than 200. He is trustworthy guy. I have bought from him and would do it again if I needed what he had to to offer. He did have a PR S1 550 and a PR S1 550 with humidifier. If he sold the one with the humidifier I know of a place you can get one for $50 if that would help you out. Used but comes with a brand new tank and the one I got looked brand new.

If you can afford to use cpap.com as a supplier that obviously would be the best way to go because of warranty stuff but if you simply don't have the dollars available....don't scrimp on getting a data machine..get a slightly used machine that will offer you the data that is important. The Plus is a good machine...nothing wrong with how it works...it just doesn't offer anything to help you if you run into trouble...not even leak data.
