Stupid or sadistic devices to stop mouth breathing
Re: Stupid or sadistic devices to stop mouth breathing
Here's a serious suggestion for you mouth breathers out there. I was a total mouth breather with a deviated septum on my right nostril and here is how I trained myself to breathe through my nose in about a month. After trying all types of masks except the oral ones, I found nasal pillows to be the key. The direct air pressure to the nose opened the deviated septum. The pillows on Resmed's LT were large enough that I could put light pressure with my upper lip as if I was assisting the pillows to stay lodged in my nares. During the first month I switched to the Aloha mask and it had an even larger pillows attachment, which permitted me to ease off the lip pressure. In about a month I was a converted nose breather and could tell with the leaks registered.
Worked for me - could for you. I bought some of the blue painters' tape, used it one time and decided if I was going to commit suicide I'd do it with a gun!

lazer, for being the sweet funny guy who brightens up the forum on a regular basis, I'm offering you the mouth strap as a belated birthday gift. The only thing I ask is that you post a photo once you get it and try it on. It has just the slightest hint of pink in the pattern and would be a lovely accent piece to compliment the rest of your pink ensemble. You just give me your address and it'll be on its way to you.lazer wrote:Is it Pink?kaiasgram wrote:(Please don't tell anyone, I'm going to start a new thread: FOR SALE: BRAND NEW SEXY MOUTHSTRAP, HURRY TO BE THE FIRST BITER -- CORRECTION, BIDDER)

It should. Be afraid. Be very afraid.lazer wrote:Thank you so very much for the kind offer but I looked at that thing again from the front page of this post and it scares the shit out of me! :shock
Actually, be not afraid -- you couldn't squish an ant if you whacked it hard with this thing.
It's so flimsy you'd have a better chance of holding your mouth closed at night by putting a Post-It note over your lips.

I do not think it would work for me. I would want another strap going around the back of my head connecting to the straps around the ears to take the pressure off of them. One thing the lower strap could do is help keep the lower jaw forward because it is behind the jawbone pushing forward. Keeping the lower jaw forward helps keep the airway behind the tongue open.VikingGnome wrote:The lower straps are just to tighten up the contraption. Wonder why they call it "Consuming Model"?Sir NoddinOff wrote:Question: On the top pic, where do the two lower straps (wires?) go to???
