pherretaus wrote:Thanks to all for advice and for your consideration, it does mean a lot. I visited my heart specialist today ( in view of a recent spell in hospital from Atrial Fibulation) this was due to my PTSD however he encouraged me to continue CPAP as the printout and checkup was good. Am about to head off for Gold Coast in a week for four weeks in our caravan. Looking forward to endeavouring to right the good ship CPAP and set it on a positive course. Maybe the sea air etc will assist me. Thanks again and a Merry Xmas to all and a Happy New Year.
November 2005 I was severely assaulted and robbed. Since that time every year near the time of the anneversary of the attack I tend toward hyperventilation. Last year I learned to control the daytime effects using pulse oximeter guided breathing. The CPAP pressure of course makes such control even more demanding.

Had it not been for the use of some enhanced expiratory rebreathing space (EERS) ( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21206741 ) I would not have made it through last year. Please read the linked paper and share with your doctor.

FWIW – after a year of using the pulse oximeter guided breathing (a form of eucapnic breathing retraining) as well as breathing volume aware management of my CPAP data and use my need for pressure from my CPAP went from 15 to 8 cm/H2O and I did not need the EERS this year.

I also think you might be interested in the MP3 of this interview ( http://doctorstevenpark.com/expert-inte ... leep-apnea ).

Have a great week!

AVI....I have said this many times on this forum in the past two and a half years........if it wasn't for the other patients here that have helped me along the way...I would have never made it. Avi you are an arrogant old curmudgeon who will listen to no one especially ladies. I am already on your foe list and I really don't give a rats patootie...and neither do the rest of us girls .
This forum is better than any DME or doctors office including your precious head of Resmed.....he is only out to promote the company, not help patients. If you seriously think that the "laypersons" advice here is worthless...then WHY are you here????????????????????????????
Cheers to all those that are here helping out others, you deserve one hell of a pat on the back for what you do.

Watch out for the Noahs!
  • Christmas where the gum trees grow
There is no ice and there is no snow
Santa proves that he's no fool
Spends Christmas by the swimming pool

    When the Jacaranda blooms appear
    Christmas time is near
Cheers,

I didn't know who he was, so I looked him up on Google: http://www.resmed.com/au/assets/documen ... 0906r1.pdf. Seems like he worked with Prof. Colin Sullivan, who first proposed the use of CPAP. Whether or not he is famous beyond his own mind, his career is quite impressive. He may well know a bit about CPAP machines, but whether he can apply that to patients who are struggling with their treatment, I wouldn't like to guess ...

As far as I am aware there is no system in Australia where you can buy a mask then exchange it even once for a different one let alone exchange it multiple times,You buy a mask and are then if you find it isnt suitable you have to buy another one.

These Australian success stories must hold such contempt for their countrymen.
Sad to be consumed by that much bitterness.
