Any ideas on wearing glasses with FF mask?
Any ideas on wearing glasses with FF mask?
.
I can't figure anything out on this, but thought maybe some of the great folks around here might have some ideas.
My husband is also on cpap and has to wear a FF mask because of his pressure (19). He's always falling asleep watching TV w/o the mask because he can't wear the mask and his glasses. He's tried some of mine (Hybrid, Liberty), as well as an old nasal-only mask that I had. But they just won't work with the pressure. Especially because of some new health issues popping up for him, I'm trying to get him to put the mask on when he starts feeling sleepy, but he won't because he can't wear his glasses, and therefore he can't read or see the TV. (He wears Quattro FF.)
Any ideas out there??

Well yeah -- the easiest would be to switch to the Quattro FX. It's very comfortable. But can move around more than the standard Quattro for side/stomach sleepers.
Anything without a forehead support will allow for use with glasses -- there are about 5 or 6 such masks on the market from various brands.
I'm testing a V2 Hans Rudolph which allows me to wear my glasses quite well.
If you have a mask with a forehead support its hard to impossible to wear any glasses.

I had totally forgotten that some FF masks don't have forehead support (other than the Hybrid and Liberty, which don't work for him), so thank you for reminding me! In your opinion or experience, do you think any of them in general are better than others for his high pressure of 19, or does it not make much difference?

Have you looked up the lab rat adjustments to the hybrid? I add a strap across the pillows to keep them from popping out. It is just light lingerie elastic but it does the trick.WearyOne wrote:I had totally forgotten that some FF masks don't have forehead support (other than the Hybrid and Liberty, which don't work for him), so thank you for reminding me! Re: Any ideas on wearing glasses with FF mask?
I have removed my glasses while wearing my Comfortgel full face mask.
This may or may not work for you if your glasses are quite large, but here goes:
I lift the ear pieces upward and swing them overhead, pivoting over my nose until they have rotated 180 degrees.
(keep them out of your eyes!)
My glasses are now inside-out and upside-down, with my lenses in front of my eyebrows and my ear pieces
out in front of my face. I then slide the section holding the lenses sideways until a hinge is nearest the notch
above my nose. I turn the glasses so the earpiece is parallel with an imaginary line through my eyebrows,
and continue sliding my glasses out, making the ear piece pass easily out from behind the mask.
I then cleaned my lenses, as they were covered with smudges.
I have not yet reversed the process--have fun!

Another thought might be contacts - the kind you can sleep in. My sis-in-law wears some that are designed for overnite wear, she changes them every 2 wks.
I am going to explore this with my eye dr because I fall asleep with my readers on every nite (I read myself to sleep), and I have broken several pair. Since they are readers, I get the cheap ones ($5 flea mkt) knowing I am probably going to break them anyway. My current pair of readers has lasted several months. I've also falled asleep with contacts in, when I've forgotten to take them out - did no damage to contacts or my eyes. If your hubby needs good prescription glasses for distance, readers won't work.
Frog's idea of glasses under the headgear does work & is a good idea, I've done this with my IQ mask & its more stable, less damage of the glasses.

Just remember if you do try to rig something with glasses and a FF mask with a forehead support, make sure no one falls alseep wearing them together. It will be goodbye glasses if rolled over on and they hit that center support brace.

Titanium frames should help with that.

Re: Any ideas on wearing glasses with FF mask?
Or buy several pairs of glasses from zenni optical through the internet. Cheap enough to almost be considered disposable, especially if you get single vision lenses. You can also buy a smaller pair if that helps with CPAP.
I wear my glasses all the time while CPAPing, but I'm sleeping in a recliner, and I'm using a nasal mask. I do get a little interference between glasses and mask, but it's workable.

Re: Any ideas on wearing glasses with FF mask?
I wear tri-focals & gave up trying to wear my glasses while wearing my Quattro. Everything I tried failed.
I hope someone posts a solution.

Re: Any ideas on wearing glasses with FF mask?
Can you get the glasses to go on with the mask, but you're looking through the wrong part of the trifocals? Ordering some single vision glasses with really small lenses might help.Denial Dave wrote:I wear tri-focals & gave up trying to wear my glasses while wearing my Quattro. Everything I tried failed.

Ordering single vision lenses, such as "TV" distance, instead of trifocals, might help so you could watch TV with the mask on. I have a pair of single vision "computer and TV" distance glasses that I use inside all the time, and progressive bifocals I used outdoors or for certain things. I also have some "reading distance" single vision glasses that are more convenient and comfortable than using the bifocals for reading and closeup work.
It might be possible to get a cheap pair of glasses (or a previous prescription) and somehow modify the eyeglass frame to work with a CPAP mask. Maybe some sort of frame that clips onto the mask.
I'm getting single vision glasses for under $20, so it's easy to experiment.

Re: Any ideas on wearing glasses with FF mask?
I showed him the FF masks on cpap.com without the forehead piece AND sent him the link. He has a friend who is a DME provider so I'm trying to get him to ask this person to let him try a few out to see if they'll work with his glasses and not leak horribly. (The catastrophe-only insurance he has won't cover this, so it means it's all out of pocket, so can't afford to buy if he doesn't know that it will probably work.)
He would definitely fall asleep with his glasses on and the mask, no question about that.
When he tried my Hybrid and a Liberty I have tucked away in the closet, we tried all sorts of ways to keep the leaks at bay, but no go. (I use the Hybrid and have a shoelace thing that works for me to keep the pillows from leaking.)
I sure hope he'll do something because I know it's not good for his health. Plus, I can't always be throwing stuff at him from across the room to wake him up when he starts snoring in front of the TV without the mask!!

It could work.

Re: Any ideas on wearing glasses with FF mask?
You'd think this would work, wouldn't you! But unfortunately, Carbonman, he watches TV from the bed in "his" room. I hear him snoring from somewhere in the house (or I go to check on him occasionally) and find him in the bed, propped up, TV on with his TV headphones, computer on, lights on...snoring away. This room is such a mess (that's why it's "his" room) that I can't get to the bed easily, so I sometimes just toss something at him to wake him up! This can be any time of the day or night. Took me about three years after I was on CPAP before he finally relented to have a sleep study, so he's been in cpap about two years.carbonman wrote:Maybe it's time to step outside the "norm" .....andWearyOne wrote:I sure hope he'll do something because I know it's not good for his health.
