Jaw and tooth pain
Jaw and tooth pain
I seem to be somewhat conscious of mouth leaks (using nasal pillows) because I find I wake up with jaw and tooth pain as if I've been clenching. I've been considering using an el-cheapo mouthguard from the pharmacist but I'm not sure if this is somehow a no-no to sleep with because of whatever issues it might cause during sleep and not being designed to sleep with.

Re: Jaw and tooth pain
You might want to try the el-cheapo from the drugstore. I have tried that, then the fitted from the dentist, then the ultra fitted from the dentist, I have a longgggg history of TMJ, which sounds like you might have. You may also have bruxism, which is grinding your teeth, that leads to jaw pain. The CPAP and mask does not cause this, just makes it more noticeable. Many people get total relief with the drugstore boil & use method, so I would try that first. Next time you go the dentist ask him if your teeth look like you have been grinding. This can lead to serious problems with grinding the enamel off your teeth. Or it could be very minor, so much so that a dentist cannot notice. Good luck & let us know how it goes with the el-cheapo night guard.

Re: Jaw and tooth pain
Yeah, I'm a little worried about this. I've recently gotten some tooth pains in both my upper and lower jaws. Don't know if I'm tooth grinding or what, however I'm not liking how it feels in the morning. Eventually the pain goes away, tho. I sure am not excited about having to have a dental appliance fit for this.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: Jaw and tooth pain
Dentistry here (Australia) costs a bloody fortune. It's not covered by Medicare for some retarded-ass reason that I'm sure has more to do with politics and budget scrimping than reality or necessity. It's literally around $200-300 just for a regular visit. Hence why I wanted to know if this was viable. I just didn't want to try it without knowing if there were any risks involved.

Re: Jaw and tooth pain
I have been having teeth pain (only one tooth in the front up).
I found the cause and now is very reduced and some days I don't have at all.
It was the pressure changes, my machine was set on auto mode. For a reason I don't understand I started biting suddenly (I woke up a couple of times because of the speed I bite) when I felt the air was leaking from my mouth (I should say in between the roof of my mouth and the tongue).
I woke up one day chewing on my el-chipo mouth guard really weird experience LOL.
What I did to try to fix my problem was to put the machine on CPAP mode and to lower the pressure to the maximum I was able to still get a good treatment. I tried to make exercises to relax the jaws too, it helps.
This is what happened to me. I hope you will find a solution because the mouth-guards doesn't stop bruxism it only protect your teeth from been damaged.

Re: Jaw and tooth pain
This is true, but there is a workable dental device that keeps you from being able to clench your jaw or grind you teeth. It fits over your front teeth making it impossible for your top teeth to meet the bottom. Cost me a lot of money (that was with insurance) and seems to make my mouth breathing leaks worse. (found out about the mouth breathing leaks after I learned about getting my own data from this forum) I currently am not using it, but I was offering the el-cheaop of a mouthgaurd as a suggestion. It might work for some people, I only know it didn't work for me, I had to keep going to next level & it seems even that won't work if it causes problems with my CPAP therapy - my body is worth more than my teeth to me. I plan to try it again after I get my mouth breathing under control.rosacer wrote: I hope you will find a solution because the mouth-guards doesn't stop bruxism it only protect your teeth from been damaged.
Maybe working with the settings of your machine might help, my machine is not capable of that, so maybe those here that know about adjusting your settings, as rosacer is, might be of some help. Sorry to hear that dentistry is so expensive to you, if you truly have bruixism, and you grind off the enamel you will either have a fortune in dental bills or dentures.
Good luck,
Jen

Didn't know about that device... thanks for the input. I'll mention it to my dentistjencat824 wrote: This is true, but there is a workable dental device that keeps you from being able to clench your jaw or grind you teeth. Re: Jaw and tooth pain
I have been using a nasal pillow for the past 3 years. Started experiencing left jaw pain (TMP) in the last 3 months, with cracking noise in the jaw joint. Explained to my dentist who agreed CPAP clenching may be the cause. Interesting because I am also experiencing bone loss under left farthest back lower molar. This tells me I am clenching my jaw, and why.....because you have to keep your mouth closed with a nasal pillow to keep the air circuit intact.
So, I just changed to a full face mask, and after 5 nights my jaw pain is subsiding. I am amazed this is not a research topic for dentists and/or facial mascular doctors. Certainly respirtory therapists should be aware of TMJ pain and nasal pillow CPAP.
