DME not carrying ResMed products... need advice

Post by RomeinDNVR » Mon Nov 05, 2012 4:00 pm

Hello everyone, been a while since I have been on. Past the 1 year mark on CPAP and I have to say life is good! I use a ResMed Swift FX nasal mask when my sinues are clear and I just found out that my DME is no longer going to carry any resmed products as of Dec 1. Can anyone suggest a mask that is comparable to the Swift FX? I really love the mask and I am a bit worried about switching out to a new one, and I really don't trust me DME to pick one out for me.

Thanks!
Rome

Your DME should allow you to try some masks before you decide, however I would recommend the Aloha or Opus 360, which seem to be the most liked of non-Resmed nasal pillow masks.

I have the Swift FX, LT and now the Opus 360. The Opus is much firmer than the Swift masks, but just as minimal.

Cheers,
xena

The Opus 360 is a really good mask. Very comfortable.

... I am losing it today. I have the Mirage FX, not swift FX.

**Yay Monday**

Rome: Not sure if you are on Medicare yet, but if you are, and they are a contracted provider, they have to ORDER it for you.
Just saying!

You will just need to try whichever masks they are going to be stocking to find one that works as well unless you want to find another source for your Mirage FX mask. Maybe just get the replacement cushion and pay out of pocket if you can.
The headgear and frame should last a long time before needing replacement. The frame a really long time unless abused.

Or find out what brands of nasal masks they are going to be stocking and try to figure out which one is a close match and give it a try.

You aren't on Medicare are you?

I am not on Medicare, I have Blue Cross Blue Shield. I will ask them for a list of masks they will supply and see what may work best.

Thanks!

Have you checked for another in-network DME in your area? The less we let DMEs walk over us, the better it is for all of us.

Have you asked the old DME if they will order the parts you need?

You might ask BCBS if they have any requirements that DMEs carry or order particular masks like Medicare does.

I would look for another DME that is a BC/BS provider in your area.

I know that every BC/BS plan can be different, but BC/BS is large enough that they usually have a lot of providers that you can use.

It would make more sense to me to change DMEs than to change from a mask you already like.

I agree, I would hold them to the commitment they made when they gave you the ResMed. You like your mask, the therapy is comfortable for you so why should it change because they decide to go with a different brand? As mentioned above, let them order it to fulfill your therapy needs. Hope it works out well for you!

Just saying!

Sorry CF this is absolutely incorrect, Medicare can not dictate what products a DME carries. Medicare can suggest that a DME carry/order specific items for a patient citing that it is in the best interest of the patients care and a "good" DME would agree with them and get the product for the patient.
Canada...I can't say anything nice, so I won't say anything at all.

So many cats, so few recipes.

Well that is a fine howdy-doo! (spelling intentional)
That means if both of the contracted Medicare providers here refuses to order my élan cushions,
I will have to buy something I can trade for what I need. A pain in the butt, for sure.
Too bad Medicare doesn't allow for exceptions when the local guys won't work with us.
Anybody interested in joining a class action?

I'm on forced Medicare and my DME won't supply my Nasel Aire II any longer and I have not found anything close yet. I have a couple that have been donated by folks that have tried the NAII and did not like it so I have not had to cross the buy it yourself bridge yet. They do carry Resmed however.

I'll join you Froggie!!!!!!
