Honda make good generators so that is probably fine.hummerlady54 wrote:I just purchased a few days ago a Honda generator
The issue with any petrol generator is that the fule goes [/stale/] over time, so they are not great for occasional instantaneous emergency use. Normal practice is to add fresh petrol shortly before you think you need to use and empty out whatever fuel is left in the tank (and use it up in your vehicles or whatever) after the period of use is over.
For storms, and other events where you have some advance warning that trouble is brewing, its usually possible to buy some fresh fuel to cover the event.
For unpredictable events, a deep cycle battery is a better proposition. A battery is ready to go instantly and doesn't need very much maintenance. You can also use a generator to recharge a battery, so given that you already have the generator, you should be able to get along for several days without mains power by using the generator/battery combination (as long as you have adequate fresh fuel).
You would need to make sure that the battery charge was 'topped up' (from the mains power) every couple of months.
In that case, perhaps you need to add some bright flashing lights as well.hummerlady54 wrote:I am deaf so a loud alarm would not help me...
A battery solution would definitely be best for that. You'd need to work out the specific switch oversteps, but that should be quite straightforward and an entirely "in bedroom" operation, compared to getting a generator, that would need to be outside the bedroom, into operation.hummerlady54 wrote:I need my husband to be able to react immediately and not fumble around especially in a crisis situation.
