Summer and humidifier.
Summer and humidifier.
Hi, was just wondering if you need the humidifier during summer? Starting to get warm in Australia. Also am feelin sweaty and uncomfortable with the chin strap, but I need it, any alternatives? Thanks
Re: Summer and humidifier.
I remove my humidifier in summer as I find the air is humid enough. Although, if you have central air you might need to use it, or at the least use a saline nasal spray for moisture.
Cheers,

Hi - you can get 'liners' for the mask from Pad-a-Cheek (owner's a member here), and has a website... lots of us use those. The humidifier depends on you - e.g. I live near the ocean so only bother with it in winter (and didn't use one at all with the older machine I used to have).
Re: Summer and humidifier.
You can set the humidifier settings on your S9 so that you can use a lower temp instead of auto if you are using the Climate Line hose.
That's what I did this past summer. I still need the added moisture even in summer with higher humidity. So I went into the clinical setup menu and took the ClimateLine off "automatic" and set it to patient (I think is the term) and this gave me temperature and humidity choices on the machine. So I could use the higher humidity setting that my body needs and yet use a cooler delivery. Now that it is approaching winter and I prefer a cold bedroom I will switch it back to automatic or increase the temperature because the cold air is uncomfortable and I get ice cube nose.
Depending on where you live and your own body's needs you may not need the added moisture.
But if you do you can change the delivery temperature to maybe help with the overall extra warmth you are experiencing and get the moisture if you need it and have cooler air go to your face/nose or whatever.

Re: Summer and humidifier.
Some folks will cringe and some of you know what's coming... I always encourage folks to ask themselves if they need their humidifier at all. A few years back, my humidifier broke and I went without one for a while. I realized I really didn't need it. I only use mine a few times a year when I get stuffy. A lot of folks need a humidifier and it can be a medical or personal reason that you may need yours. I found that eliminating it, I didn't have to mess with the possibility of bacteria forming, fussing with distilled water and mess with the extra cleaning that "wet air" causes. Jist' sayin'

I use my humidifier settings on maximum year-round and do fine. My machine is an old Respironics BiPap Plus wtih the Respironics humidifier.

I use my humidifier in passive mode (attached with water in the chamber but no heat) for most of the year. It used just a very small amount of water each night in that setting.
In the winter months, here in Canada - Southwestern Ontario, I use the humidifier set at 2 maximum. I use the heat from November to March in my area. It seems to work well for me.

Re: Summer and humidifier.
I use my humidifier since last May when I stated. I suspect I will use it year round. In the summer we run our AC and I set my climateline to 79 degrees and let it auto humidify. I use about a half a tank of water a night. My sinuses are never dry and more importantly, they remain open ( I often am stuffed up during the day ).
We have already switched over to heat here in Delaware and even with the humidifier on the furnace, I am still setting my s9 to 79 degrees.

Re: Summer and humidifier.
I think it depends a bit where you are.
If you are in Adelaide with fairly dry summers, then you probably need it. If you are in Darwin, probably not.

That's a trial an error question. Everyone is different. Some need it, some don't.
