As far as I can see, its US$127.00 online in the US against AUD$255 on-line in Oz, so you might want to check your sums again.

Cheers,

Bill

The accepted mine.

In terms of price relativity, pretty much the same relative pricing exists for all xPAP manufacturers products in Australia, so all those suggesting its a Resmed conspiracy are simply displaying a complete misunderstanding of the underlying causes

Cheers,

Bill
did they accept yours when they were allowed to ship to AU?
guess the best way is to ask them
the underlying misunderstanding could come from the fact that once upon a time cpap com was permitted to ship to CN & AU but because of resmed they are no longer allowed to
could that be the underlying misunderstanding?

That skates very close to price fixing which is illegal. The point has been argued back and forth. You can read about it here. Since the decision to adhere to the MSRP was forced on the retailers by the manufacturer as a condition of their continuing to supply them, i.e., the decision was coerced, it seems to me that the practice fits the definition of price fixing.

http://www.michigan.gov/ag/0,4534,7-164 ... --,00.html

It is frequently difficult in antitrust enforcement to determine when a retail price is set based upon a manufacturer's unilateral pricing policies
and when the retail prices are set based upon an illegal agreement. The basic rule of thumb is: if the manufacturer's decision to set a suggested retail price and
the retailers choice to adhere to that price are independent decisions, then it is probably not considered price fixing under the law. But if manufacturers and retailers
agree that a certain price will be charged, the agreement will be considered illegal.

I wonder how that works down under?

Retail Price Maintenance practices ares prohibited under Australian consumer law, but there is no RPM occuring here as there are a demonstrably wide range of differing price for similar xPAP products offered by Australian retailers, many of which were below the MRRP.

What happens in your country is another matter entirely.

In terms of the Australian market, the whole national market contains about the same population as the greater Los Angeles area in the US - also private and/or public health insurance here will not continually pay for xPAP stuff (though it covers lots of other healthcare delivery costs very well), so everyone pays out of their own pocket for xPAP machines and supplies, which produces very different buying behaviours/sales volumes compared to the US. Just on those two factors alone, the cost base for Australian xPAP retailers is wildly different to that in the US.

Cheers,

Bill

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has accepted a court enforceable undertaking from ResMed Asia Pacific Pty Limited following concerns that ResMed had engaged in resale price maintenance.

I tried to order a Swift FX mask and some associated accessories but was told that this couldn't be shipped internationally. I have a friend in the US who would be willing to accept the order and resend to me, but I'm guessing I'd still need to get around the prescription requirement. Would they accept my (Australian) prescription even if it's to a US address? What other ways are there around this restriction?

I really need the Swift FX mask as I've tried several masks and this is by far the one that suits me best. The cost of the mask alone is a 250% mark-up in Australia compared to what it costs from CPAP.com. This, to me, is just a blatant scam on the part of ResMed, forcing people to pay an exorbitant premium with the thinly veiled justification of international shipping. Not to mention that I don't have a spare $500 for all the things I need instead of the $260 that it would all cost me from CPAP.com.

There has to be a way to make this work

The price I was quoted was $299. And even at $255, it's still a 200% mark-up so I really don't see the point of you pointing this out.

The MRRP is only AUD$289

Markup Percentage = (new number - original number)/original number

Markup Percentage = (255-127)/127 = 101%
