A good Nose Plug ?

Post by cmoore » Sun Oct 14, 2012 10:20 pm

For me either a full face mask thats "very comfortable" or an oral mask with a comfortable and effective nose plug. Any suggestions?
I already have an oral mask but cannot use it without keeping air from leaking out of my nose.

Ive not tried a hybrid mask yet.

Do you have the Oracle mask? When I tried mine, what worked was to put it on, turn it on, and then try blowing back into the mouthpiece like I was blowing up a balloon. Then I'd sort of freeze up and consciously relax everything while letting the pressure keep the valve at the back of my nose stay closed.

It's a little hard to describe, but I found I could keep my nose from leaking. I never could really sleep well with it, though. It just irritated my throat too much.

I never used their nose plugs that came with the Oracle mask.

The sleep clinic gave my dad some clips that they used for some sort of lung testing unrelated to CPAP. Try Googling "nose clips for pulmonary function testing." They looked like some of those. There are also nose clips for swimming.

Hybrid would be one thing to try.

Is there a reason you aren't doing a nasal mask?

Nasal masks dont work and a chin strap still wont stop the mouth leaks. Im just getting back on this after years of NO therapy. My new followup sleep test is this Friday (HMO).

Im quite sure they will put me back on CPAP, Im here now to get ready so I can begin to get the pieces together. I have an Orace but Ive hardly used it, I have a nasal pillow but I cannot use it due to leaks... a shame since it really relaxed me just before my mouth would leak and Id give up in frustration. Im hopeful just to be here

I am in the same boat as your are, doesn't matter what I did, I could not stop mouth breathing. I have found that the Respcare/Innomed Hybrid works fine as does the Fitlife full face mask. BUT...no two patients have the same facial structure and really can't always use the same mask...it may work great for me but not for others. I would suggest you go to cpap.com and read all the discriptions and reviews on the full face masks and then pick one to try, but pay the return insurance, that way if it doesn't work then you can try something else. Or, just ask on the forum if someone has a slightly used mask that you can try out and go from there. I got both the hybrid and the fitlife from other members and was soooo grateful as I do not have insurance or the $$$$ to be able to try too many. Members here are wonderful and will help out with suggestions and sending out masks that don't work for them .
Good luck

Yes, it "looks" like a great deal...but do you realize its only the mouth piece...no headgear and its is small size. When you purchase this mask it should come with all 3 sizes of pillows and mouth cushion, complete with headgear.

If you read the product description what your buying is just the small mouth cushion only, no pillows, no mask frame, just the small cushion.

Both the Devilbiss and Resmed masks are shown here; just click on one or the other,
or check the check marks and then hit "compare selected".
