I don't think there is anything to be ashamed of. I need to use the CPAP machine as well. It wasn't my choice to have narrower airways than normal and tissues/muscles getting too relaxed. This is not a character flaw or a result of it. Some people have calcium deficiencies, some vitamin deficiencies. Some people have migraines or other chronic pains. Some people wear glasses! I didn't do anything "bad" to deserve this. While it is nothing to be proud of, there is nothing to be ashamed of either. I think a great deal of people out there have sleep issues and are not even aware of it. Maybe glasses initially looked weird but now they are mainstream and nobody gives people who wear glasses a second thought. This should be the case for CPAP as well. Just think of it as another form of glasses.

[quote="Denial Dave"]I'll bet when folks are diagnosed with Diabetes, they spend time telling about blood sugar levels, how to monitor it, etc.,.

Good luck!

Actually Dave, I got the same amount of information - even less - with my prescription for diabetes test strips and meds. My Dr. told me absolutely NOTHING!! I got home with my meds and test equipment and as I was reading the instructions, I was registering for the ADA forums, where I learned EVERYTHING about diabetes, just like I joined this forum to learn about OSA.

The problem with diabetes, specially T2, it's a very individual thing - what spikes my BG has no effect on another person's, so we each have to run our own science experiments on ourselves.

I have to say, my self-interest and treatment in both T2 and OSA has my medical team totally on my side. They certainly monitor my labs and printed reports, but they rely on ME to tell them how I'm doing and our appointments are more discussions than anything else.

Cheers,
xena

There's actually a lot of support systems for diabetes--most doctors will refer you to a diabetes educator and/or dietician. Unfortunately, a good deal of the info they teach is crap--like how to eat six servings if carbs a day to guarantee you'll be on ever increasing doses of medication for life, replacing healthy fats with junk industrial oils to help you develop heart disease and other issues, and warn you away from whole foods like real eggs and organ meats so that you overeat to try to get your nutritional needs met from empty manufactured calories.

You dodged a bullet by not getting referred for this "helpful" advice, Xena!

OH no, you don't!! Not as I'm going on ASV!

I even named the empathic approach after you, remember?
SleepingUgly wrote:Nosnore, do you want help?? There are good people who will be more than willing to help you in any way they can (it's just that those ways are already pretty clearly defined). You could choose the tactics of your sponsors:

(1) "The John Fisher approach" -- you will get knowledge, support, and empathy. (If you still are noncompliant, you need a tougher approach. Consider Group 2).
(2) "The 2x4 approach" -- If you liked bootcamp, you will like this approach. You whine, you do 25 push-ups. You complain, 30 push-ups. You complain in a whiny voice, 55 push-ups. (If you have not increased your compliance or lost any weight in this group, and you are still actually here, you belong in the John Fisher group).

So, to kaiasgram in particular, and the forum in general ... Please accept my apologies. I can offer excuses, but they are just that. And poor behavior is not really excusable. So please accept my humble apology.

Because I seem to be in such a poor mood - and have been criticized recently for my comments - I probably will only comment on specific issues with ASV therapy. If my own personal feelings are negatively tinting my comments, then it's time for me to just deal with facts and specific therapy issues and not deal with feelings.

So, again, please accept my apology.
Oy, you are such a mensch. I don't think I could/would have been so menschy in your shoes. I'm lower on the mensch continuum. I think I'll call it the John Fisher Mensch Continuum.

I'm sorry to hear about your poor mood. Anything we can do to help? It's about time WE helped YOU.

Just bringing a chuckle to me helps. Having the joy of having life be "interesting" makes it a challenge to keep my mood even when I respond. Unfortunately, I don't always succeed. So, back up, apologize, and try, try, try again!

And I'll be happy to help you (as will many other users, no doubt) as you start ASV therapy. You've gone through a lot to get to this point, so you should be well prepared to tackle ASV therapy.

Thanks, however, for the thoughts!

I want to thank John for reaching out to me, which he has done both publicly and privately. I've accepted his apology open-heartedly and I believe John knows that while I took exception to one part of his earlier post, I do not question his intention to help and I respect him as a valuable member of our community.

Nobody needs to be talking about "goating" and "bashing" here, we've worked it out between us and it's all good.

Thanks again, John. I second what another poster said, you are a man of integrity and class. Best wishes.

John... your signature says it all. You are indeed a mensch!

There are five people here whose posts I always read... whether they apply to me or not. Yours is one of them! Realizing that some days you may be in a mood, your posts nevertheless are always knowledgeable and uplifting.

BTW... it's 1:40 pm here and I'm still in my pj's. Yep, I'm in a mood alright and I'm not dancing.

John, stay with us, we need you here! I don't know how many people you've helped with your knowledge. knew as soon as I read your response that you were having some personal stress and I also knew you wouldn't let it stand for long. I'm just a mind reader, I guess! You're one classy guy!

In my diabetes "education" I noticed most of the dietetic horse-puckey was in brochures
that were compliments of a DRUG company.
The room in which the class was held had two vending machines--every last item was JUNK FOOD!
I took everything they said with a grain of salt (and threw the salt away, too.)
John, you are awesome; and sometimes anyone can get a bit frustrated.

'Tis true. The secret, though, is that if I am upset I should remember to NOT click on "Submit" until I've slept on it. I ignored my own advice on that. Ah, well. Some days are more "interesting" than others. Sadly I sometimes go out of my way make them that way!

Oh gee, thanks! Now I'm going to have to put that in my signature too!

Did you fall? Never saw a thing.
