New Member, Questions About Respironics System One

Post by Duckdog » Thu Oct 04, 2012 2:33 pm

New here and just one week on the above machine. My questions are:

1. How do you turn off the auto setting? Is that in a software edit or in the machine menu. I think it is called CPAP, but I can only choose from a 1, 2, or 3 setting.

2. Anybody else think this machine is a piece of junk?

3. Since my deductibles were maxed out for once, I elected to purchase this machine, can I send it back to the supplier and get something else?

there are many system one models. look on the bottom of your machine for the model number. something like 150, 250, 450, 550, 460, 450, etc.

You probably have an PR1 Auto machine. It's one of the best machine's on the market. Only the S9 could be considered equal or better.

Why would you turn off the auto setting if that is what your MD wants you on?

The whole point of an auto machine is so you receive the lowest pressure you need to stop apneas, with the machine raising the pressure up and down as needed.

If you want something that is a straight CPAP, which is basically one, constant pressure, why didn't you just buy an old fashioned, CPAP-only machine? They still do make them, and they cost much less.

the only setting on system one with a 1,2,3 is cflex or aflex, depending which model he has. it could be a straight cpap with cflex or an automatic.

I found the silent mode on it, and that has been a lot better, but the auto drives me crazy. I will call my supplier and see what can be done. I guess that is where I really should start. This is new territory for me, and I find myself fighting the mask and machine in my sleep where I did not do that during the sleep studies.

To answer your question, this is a PR1 Auto. Call it the learning curve since I had no idea whatsoever about these machines. Since my insurance has been billed, there is no return.

I did some research and these machines with humidifier are @ $2100 NIB, I think a used price of $1,500 should be sufficient to cover my huge mistake with this supplier (it is the ONLY machine they carry) and get into something more reasonable. I live in an extremely rural area, and medical supply stores tend to be rather limited.

Whatever. I am ready to quit now. I'm putting this machine into the closet for now and will have to do some serious rethinking about this whole nonsense.

Thanks for the forum, but I think I'll be moving on. :wavey:

Dream on, you'll never get that price for that machine. Here is a good machine from our host at a lot cheaper price. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-sys ... -tube.html Call and you'll get the discount price.

You can configure almost all auto-PAPs to operate at a set pressure (CPAP) rather than auto, far as I know. One of the advantages in having an APAP is you can put it into CPAP mode, giving you more options.

Sorry about that Uncle Bill, I must have quoted him out of your quote of him instead of the original message from him, does that make ant since. I'll just have to write it off to a senior moment.

Well, anyway you cut it, I can't return it, I can't get a refund, and I'm not continuing with this nonsense.

Son and I decided this machine is the perfect size for use as a 300m target for high power rifle shooting.

Peace, all.

I wish you wouldn't. It's not clear to me (1) what machine you actually have (as noted above some System Ones are top-of-the-line); (2) what setting it is you're trying to change; (3) what problems you are having with using the machine; (4) what you mean when you say "this nonsense."

You do realize, don't you, that untreated sleep apnea is a very serious condition? What did your sleep study say your AHI was?

Are you giving up on yourself after a week?
