Sleepweaver Elan question

Post by Mundy » Thu Oct 04, 2012 12:49 pm

On my Sleepweaver elan I can't feel any air coming out of the exhalation holes. Is this normal? I'm having trouble with leaking and wonder it that may be part of the problem.

Any other suggestions for the leaking? ( have watched the video several times)

I can't feel air coming out of the exhalation holes either. I think that's the way it's supposed to be. I continue to have leaks also... it's a some nights I do, some nights I don't thing. I also feel more claustrobic with this mask and not sure why.

I went back to my Bella Loops recently and have less leaks. I'll continue to use the Elan but will probably switch between the two.

Mundy,
I tried eLan, and had leaks because the large elbow kept pulling the mask. But the newer sleepweavers use much finer holes for exhalation than the early ones did, so it's less likely to feel an air jet except where you have a leak. If you're having leaks try loosening the upper straps.
Good luck; I ended up sending the eLan back to CPAP..com and they made me a no-hassle swap for the newest SW Advanced, which I absolutely love. n0hardmask

I feel a light breeze from my élan's vent holes.
This is as low as 7 cm pressure. If you feel no air, may I suggest you speak to SleepWeaver.
Your cushion may be defective.

Some suggestions for Elan leaks:

- Wash your face. A clean face is essential for the mask to snug your face.
- Warm up the material part in your hand for a minute. The material is stiff when it is cold.
- Loosen up the straps. This really is a hover craft.
- Use the pillow to squash a leak. Smoosh your face into the pillow.
- Pull the elan so it's almost at the tip of your nose (instead of up the bridge). At least for me that helps make a better seal because I have a very narrow bridge.
- Pull side to side on the straps and wiggle into the mask.

The biggest thing that I discovered recently (duh) is WASH MY FACE. It makes a world of difference on the leaks.

Of course, YMMV and every face is different. I'm so glad I don't have plastic on my face anymore and I hated the forehead bars on the nasal masks. I'm very happy now - and sleeping better than ever!

Ok, I"m a noob so please forgive me my ignorance. Where are the vent holes? I feel some air coming out the top towards my eyes. When it's leaking there's a lot of air, but always a little.
I also have used a night guard for twelve years.

I feel them kinda around the lower front down towards the mouth put not pointed inwards but rather outwards away from the mouth. Hope that makes sense.

Right above the printed label on the front right of the mask, you will see an array of tiny holes on the elan.
Mine has 2 rows of five, making 10 pinholes. I can feel a little air coming out there when the machine is on.
Admittedly, the amount of air coming up into my eyes is considerably more;
I'm still looking for clear goggles I can wear with it.
Forget the Quartz--too wide over the nose, and swim goggles are too bulky to fit behind the elan.

That's my only complaint so far to with this mask. And I even loosened the straps last night as suggested but ended up having to re-tighten the bottom ones to prevent air streaming into my eyes.

So for me I either wear it "Too tight - get gashing mask marks across my cheeks" OR "Go loose, and suffer red eye and pain & itchiness in my eye(s) the next day.

Guess which I pick?

Lazer... why not try a different mask? Red marks on your face and/or air blowing in your eyes doesn't make for a restful nite. Either one of those things would keep me up all night.

I keep artificial tears handy; and put a couple drops in when I wake up.
My eyes are pretty much normal in a few minutes.
{{{Need good goggles . . .}}} --My ophthalmologist says my eyes are a little dry anyway.
One morning, I had to be at work early, and a couple of my co-workers thought I looked hung over.
ems: after over 20 masks, this is the best I can find. (unless they want to make custom sizes.)
