Like a lot of leaking, if the air is rushing out. (depends on the pressure)

You can have your mouth open and no leaking, try it sometime. It depends whether you lose the seal at the back of your throat.

Unfortunately, ResMed decided to only show "unintentional" leak, so they subtract their guess for the mask leak rate and throw away anything less than that. If you have a fairly small mouth leak, it may not show up.

Even if you do have total leak data, a small mouth leak may dry out your mouth without showing much on the leak rate, even on a machine that does show total leak rate.

In either case, it shouldn't directly effect your therapy pressure that much unless it gets big enough to show a significant leak on your leak graph.

Mouth Leaks indicated on ResScan Leak graph:

Image

The high level of leaks (before 04:40 and at o5:10), above the 24 L/min red leak line, and their characteristic plateau shape (steep rise, flattening off and then returning to the base line) indicate the presence of significant and variable leaks, most likely mouth leaks.

It should be similar in SleepyHead. The following leak events seen on SleepyHead are from another night. Those hi leaks in the shape of inverted U are mouth leaks. But b/c they are not above 24 L/min, they should not interfere with Resmed machines.

I asked this question a month or so back on if there was a way to determine mask leaks vs. mouth leaks via the software and the answer was basically, NO.
