What is the average time on cpap?

Post by Gin » Sun Sep 16, 2012 5:42 am

My machine shows that in the past 7 days my average time on CPAP is 7.50. Past 30 is 6.48. What's normal? I don't have all the bells and whistles that I read about here, although I plan on getting them ASAP. I do feel more sleep rested than I have in years and I'm wondering if my mask usage is about normal. I have a 30-minute ramp time

Hi - are you asking how many hours people sleep (with cpap on) every night, or something else, because hours of sleep vary a lot for many reasons, with or without cpap. You may be someone who naturally sleeps only 6+ hours a night because of genetics, shift work, GERD that awakens you around the same time daily, family habits, etc., or someone who even with Cpap working perfectly still doesn't feel rested without 8 hours of sleep... 7-9 hrs is supposedly 'normal' in general, but other things need to be taken into account.

The number of hours used per night should equal the number of hours you were in bed sleeping (or trying to sleep).

I might be reading your question incorrectly (heck, I am preaching today on misunderstanding communications....), but are you thinking that the cpap only kicks in when needed? The "C" in cpap is for "continuous" - if the machine is turned on, it is being used.

Your profile shows the PR S1 BiPap Pro....it is a full data machine. Only thing it is missing is auto adjusting pressure mode.
Have you chosen the right machine? Look on the bottom of it for a model number...
BiPap Pro System One will be either 650 or 660 (the 60 is the heated hose model).
The humidifier you have chosen doesn't match the machine at all. If you have PR System One machine you need a PR System One humidifier...either the regular one or the heated hose capable one.
Look for humidifier in the group starting with PR S1.

So can you confirm which machine you have?

Regarding hours of sleep...I average a little over 7 hours with sometimes getting near 8 hours. I feel the best with nearly 8 hours but sometimes external things don't let me get it...dogs mainly.

Sorry about the confusion. I was wondering if 7.5 hours with the machine was about right. It makes sense that however many hours you sleep is what the numbers show. I'm not clear about the ramp time counting as machine time too. Will find out my model numbers and post that.

It's all new and slightly intimidating. My late husband had one of the old noisy machines, full face masks, hated it, and battled with it constantly... so I think I'm thinking this can't be so easy. As it sits, my partner is overjoyed (no snoring), I'm sleeping like a baby, and my biggest complaint is that I wake up with marks on my face. (Looking for pads to fix that)

Thanks for your patience!

Ramp time counts in hours of usage time.
If you lay there for an hour awake...it counts as usage time.

Have you looked at Pad-a-cheek.com for liners (to help with marks)?

Thanks! I've ordered a cheek pad and a nose bridge pad. Wasn't really complaining about the marks, just mentioning that was my only problem. I feel very lucky indeed.
