I expect 7-10 days without power.

I have not been procrastinating.

I've been trying not to run my freaking credit card bill up because I've been out of work for a year and a half.

I could not get anyone to tell me what SIZE battery I needed. A Bipap ASV is a power hog, or so I've been told. Every time I asked, I got long electrical lectures that I didn't understand. Funnily enough, on Isaac Thursday, I called CPAP.COM and asked them. And got a straightforward answer. Regrettably, no one who carried batteries was open on Thursday. Or Friday, but my Dad got power back, so we moved over to his house.

I've been desperately afraid of something like Isaac every since I got my machine two months after Hurricane Gustav in 2008. But insurance doesn't pay for the d@mn thing, and I have been struggling to save up the money.

A good place to get a dependable deep-cycle battery is through Advanced Auto. Order through their website online, and then pick the battery up at a local store. I just checked, and right now they have a sale if you make a $100 purchase online, they will give you 15% off and give you a $50 coupon toward a future purchase. They will charge you a $12 core fee, but they will take that off if you bring in any old battery when you pick the new one. A quality deep-cycle battery is going to run about $100. The thing to keep in mind though is that any battery that you get will only last up to five years, and then it will stop holding a charge, and you will have to replace it.

I bought a battery from Advanced Auto through their online website last month and was very pleased with the deal. Anyway, as Ronnie Lamarque would say, "These days you have to get the most for your dollah. Buy American!"

If you get one of the batteries I suggested that will work with your machine, BE SURE that you ask them about the right DC cord for your particular machine.

For what it's worth, I think you should do this and, at least, be able to get sleep with your machine.

Hawthorne,

I talked with Battery Geeks today. They agreed that the connector I already, have, this one:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/DC-Pow ... Bipap.html

will work with their battery.

I'm going to rent their 20000 battery for a week and test to see if that one will give me a decent period of time on the Bipap ASV. If it does, I'm going to also get the solar recharger so that it can be recharged after a storm.

If the 20000 isn't adequate, I'll need to go with the 40000, which can also be recharge with the solar panel.

Either battery can apparently be recharged from the car if one is driving around -- and we did a bunch of that, hunting fresh food.

One useful thing -- they will apply the cost of the rental to the purchase.

That looks like it will be great for your machine. I just have an APAP so mine is not that great a cpapcity but with yours, you need more. You need one that will last through longer power outages than we experience here as well.

The price looks good as well!

Renting will let you try it out and, if it works well, it's great that the rental will go towards purchase!

Yes -- they say the battery should be here on Thursday, so I can test it over the weekend. Then ship it back to them on Monday, most likely.

Tuesday, I have to go see a veterinary specialist because my 14 year and 6 month Sunny LadyDachs is ill. It never rains but it pours.

But hopefully, I will soon have an emergency set-up that I can keep on my nightstand, ready to go. (I have also lodged a complaint with the power company.)
