RE: Site Messing Up

Post by Snoozie » Sat Apr 01, 2006 8:49 pm

Sorry, I can't get into my original post because of site messing up. Someone asked me for a screenshot of what I am seeing, and I only know how to do a screenshot in e-mails. Not very computer literate! Here is a copy and paste of what I am experiencing when I try and view most posts, which only gives a small portion of what it really looks like - this is my original post which I can no longer read or access....

Looks like you are seeing code rather than the browser rendered page. But even that is not complete. I am not seeing this in my browser at all. When you see this, try refreshing the page. Which browser are you using?

I looked through some previous message and Theo says he upgraded this message board to the newest version of phpbb on Monday. March 27. Maybe that upgrade is causing problems for you. You might try a PM to Theo. Sounds like something in your browser software settings doesn't agree with the new upgrade.

Mousetater, I think you might have something there! It worked fine last week. I could not access this at all to even check your answer, but then went in to my Internet Explorer and it is working through there. I have AOL and am wondering if something is not compatible since the upgrade. Hopefully, someone else that has AOL can answer so that I know. Will send PM also to see what the possible problem may be.

Thanks!

I though I had the log-in thing fixed but today it is crap again, worse than usual.

Snoozie,

I have AOL and it's fine. I have no trouble seeing the posts. What version AOL are you using?

Lori,

I am using AOL 9.0. It is the latest version. I tried again, and it still is not working through my AOL. I am answering the post through Internet Explorer. Don't know what is going on!

Snoozie,
I would try clearing AOL's cache. Do you know how to do that? If not, PM me and I'll give you written directions. Since it is only happening with AOL, and that doesn't happen with mine, and I use the same version (for broadband), it must be something specific to your AOL since it is not happening with IE. I'd be happy to give you a walk-through if you don't know how to do it.

Lori,
Thanks for the tip. Acutally I have tried everything. I even had all old files just cleaned out of my computer very recently. Cleaned cache and files again today and even restarted computer, still get the garble through AOL, but not IE.

Snoozie,
Why don't you call AOL's tech support or talk to someone on Live Help online and see if they can offer any suggestions? Hey, we pay an arm and a leg for AOL, so take advantage of the services they provide. Sometimes you get lucky and you actually get someone who knows something. Good luck.

Nothing to do with cpap here. Just can't believe anyone voluntarily uses AOL anymore.

I guess if no one used it, they would be out of business . Seems booming to me! Several reasons I use it also. I have all of my accounts set to the AOL e-mail and it would be a pain to change right now. Also, I have a daughter in college on my account. If I switch, she would have to pay. For the time being, it will stay. On the other hand, it is a hog on resources and not my 1st choice, but who am I? The kids have won once again.

I also get some weird things taking place here when I visit, and I'm computer literate. It is like something is scanning or taking control of my browser at times, the mouse cursor will actually freeze or hang for second while I type (which is why it gets my attention).

I run Symantec anti virus, Microsoft AntiSpyware and use Mozilla and have it clear my private data regularly upon exit.

I can visit other sites and it doesn't do this. I may have to examine what cookies we are actually getting, normally that shouldn't cause a problem. But the SPAM we see here at times tells me some kind of bot is running and scanning the site. In the olden days of html you could put a norobots.txt file on the server in the public folder with some commands that told the bots to go away but I guess that no longer works today.

I would try going to Control Panel, Internet Options then clicking the delete buttons to clear your Cookies and Delete Temporary Internet files. If your logged on to cpaptalk.com you will have to log-on again which will put a new cookie on your PC.

Thanks for all the tips. I pm'd Theo reguarding the new spam upgrade and he basically said the same thing. I did this yesterday to no avail. I also have had a guy from computer message boards helping me clean up the computer and have "nothing" on it that should cause any problems. It wasn't even just the garbled text, but each post was in weird places and all chopped up. I also have Ad-Aware, CCCleaner, XCleaner, Spybot, Trojan Remover, and ran Hijackthis. Computer is clean, I promise!

Now, the funny thing....today without doing anything, everything is fine as if nothing ever happened! But thanks to all that tried to help.
