Re: Utility discounts
Like how we share our collective wealth giving breaks to impoverished oil companies like Exxon Mobil and British Petroleum, and the coal and ethanol industry? And farmers?
Or to those hiding money in Swiss bank accounts?
Heaven forfend the poor, the sick and the crippled should get a break on anything before their sad, wretched lives come to a close....

Re: Utility discounts
I do not know about utility discounts, but due to my wife's need for a cpap and O2 concentrator at night, we are on the priority reconnect list in case of a power outage. That did a lot of good this June / July when that Derecho thing came slamming though Ohio. I got my power back 5 days after the storm and no sooner than anyone else in the area. That is why I have a generator and a newly installed transfer switch.

Only if by "share the wealth" you mean "the wealthy Shareholders" with their Swiss bank accounts who need Corporate Welfare far more than any of us plebeianslazer wrote:True, After all aren't we supposed to be in the Share the Wealth era?Goofproof wrote:Why not, leting, your niebhors pay your part of your electric bill, sounds like the socialist american way, heaven forbid we be willing to pay our own way.
XPAPs use very little electric, find something bigger to cry about. Jim
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!
Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

I mean by you not paying your FAIR share of the Electric you use, your neibhors have to pay more in the form of higher cost per KWH, to cover the break you got on your bill.
Getting a rebate on your electric bill just to drive your XPAP,(Which uses little power) unlike Using a O2 pump does use quite a bit of power, and if needed should be allowed. But allowing the discount to be higher than the power use, you or the stupid power company, are allowing theft of money from your neibhors, who have to make up the rest of your bill.
We can't help the greed of the wealthy, but we do have to power not to place our greed on our neibhors. Pay your own way, I realize in our NEW country everything is supposed to be provided free, but that's not the way I was brought up. If I couldn't pay I did without, my neibhor wasn't expected to pay my way.
Take a few $$$ out of your Beer and Cig Money and buy some Electric for your XPAP, A Pack a week should be more than enough. Jim
AND, no you can't have my Pack, I don't Smoke or Drink to excess, but I don't have to waste, but I do pay my Electric and maybe a little of yours too, somebody will have to.

Re: Utility discounts
I know some CALIFORNIA power companies offer discounts for CPAP users. My sister, her husband, and my mother are all on CPAP at night at their house in Bakersfield. They get "additional" kilowatts each month before overage charges kick in. Like they really need it? My brother-in-law is a DENTIST.

Re: Utility discounts
My power company offers dicounts but only to those with limited income. I don't think my CPAP is the main factor in my last months $580 electric bill
75% of my power usages gets used by an aging HVAC system, two 4 tonnes units, that trying to cool a house in the middle of the desert.
Another service they do offer is a Medical Care Preparedness Program. If you apply they will notify you in advance of a planned outage and help with any preparedness you may require. Useful if you have a battery backup on hand to use.

Um, that sounds more like the typical politician's view of Welfare than reality. Chances are, if they're behaving like that, they're committing Welfare fraud. Try going on the "food-stamp diet" for a week (Google it), then see if you still think all Welfare recipients are like that.lazer wrote:Oh Believe me, my exact point and what I'm talking about.Goofproof wrote:One more thing, around here you can tell who's on Welfare in the winter, Drive by their free housing, the lights are all turned on, and the door is open,(In the Winter). Re: Utility discounts
Just for the record, I wasn't qualifying all welfare recipients as such and rather my response was an in general observation based on the reality of what I also see AND what I experienced during the brief time I was on welfare straight out of high school with a kid on the way and a very young marriage a month after I graduated. I think I was on welfare for about 6 months. Got a job and have never turned back.DiverCTHunter wrote:Um, that sounds more like the typical politician's view of Welfare than reality. I agree some people need the system but it is way over abused and taken advantage of and Obama's "Share the wealth" mentality isn't helping matters to encourage those on it to get off of it if possible. Remember, people tend to take the easy way out, especially when encouraged by our political system.

Re: Utility discounts
Never been on welfare, I wasn't afraid to do work. I did draw food stamps, for 6 months, to help feed my family of 7, when I was hurt at work and out due to a operation. Most food stamps are traded for Cig and or the clients drug of choice, Beer, ECT. Nothing wrong with taking help when life kicks you down, but generations of families drawing welfare, maybe China does have a better idea. I say if your Gene Pool only produces System Leaches, it's time to add the bleach, and kill off the parasites.DiverCTHunter wrote:Um, that sounds more like the typical politician's view of Welfare than reality. Politicians view Welfare as Job Security, the weaker they can make the population the better their job becomes (More money to suck off of) As far as commiting welfare fraud, most of them are, it's overlooked, by the questions asked unless you live your life just to get on the dole, you have to streack the truth just to qualify, the system is set up to make Crooks and cheats oout of everyone, not that anyone cares.
