It is my belief that one of the most valuable assets to someone in that situation is to have someone who will go with them to the appointments to take notes, as verbatim as possible, on the discussions that take place between the docs and the patient. When emotions run high, it can be difficult for the patient to hear accurately what the docs say and accurately to remember later what the docs have said.quote]

Carbonman, I hadn't weighed in on this yet because my words seem woefully inadquate. In the absence of something deeply profound to say, I do want you to know your circumstances with your sister have touched my heart and you are on my mind. Colon cancer is rampant in my family, so this is not unfamiliar. Glad to hear she is moving forward and things seem to be on a well planned path. Hoping and praying for the least difficult journey possible and a favorable outcome. Keep us informed.

Carbonman - I am glad that you shared your sister's story and that so many people have given you and your sister a lot to think about.

Having her go to see and talk to people undergoing chemo is an excellent idea. I too feel that each circumstance should be weighed individually. There is no right answer - only the right answer for that person after they have done some research.

Just know that you and your sister are in my thoughts and prayers.

Cman, I had a close friend who was dx'd w colon cancer (the "bad" kind) some years ago. She underwent all the nasty therapy (and added some of her own) maintained a very positive outlook, and far outlived the most optimistic projections.

That said, good luck to her fighting this horrible disease. Good on you for helping her.
