Well, sort of. Your insurance company will gladly pay for an APAP, because whether you get an APAP or a CPAP the insurance company pays the same amount to the DME. It makes no difference to the insurer which model you get. So the impediment to getting an APAP is the DME's profit margin, not your insurance company standing in the way of approving an APAP. The insurance company doesn't care, but DME certainly does.
Note that the DME may try to claim that the insurer won't cover the APAP, but with some rare notable exceptions (my HMO insurer for one), that is not true. The insurer doesn't care.
