I am sooo bummed out. I really like how the Swift nasal fits and how light and much less of a obstructive force than the profile gel mask is. But unfortunately, I have to stop using it now. I have been continously sick with sinus infections, earaches, fluid in the ears since January. I had to turn the humidifier up to 5 in order for it to irratate my nose less. I am tired of nasal sprays, colds, runny noses and just being sick from it constantly. I am just plain tired of CPAP treatment. I slept the other night without it on my stomach and woke up unable to move my neck. Just doesn't pay.
Now back to the red mark on my forehead, the sore on the bridge of my nose etc. etc. etc.

(If there is a harder road to take, I always seem stuck on it)
Bummed
distilled water for the humidifier. I was sick before I got the new mask (Swift). I am hoping that it is just "slowing" down the healing process, but my gut tells me NO!!! I went back to my Respronics Comfort Lite Gel mask last night and my nose is much better today. It just feels more chlostrophobic. More facial marks from it though.
I am also wondering too if maybe I have developed some allergies this year. With spring here and being outside more.
I will try the Swift again in a few weeks.

Just my .02 on this as it may not apply to you, but I had the same symptoms at various times until I eliminated the dairy products from my diet. Since then I have yet to suffer from any allergies or even a cold. And it's been years! I still can do cheese on occasion and not suffer any consequences.

Jim,
I hope you'll feel better soon.
I've read of people reinfecting themselves with strep throats throught their toothbrushes. Do you think you might be reinfecting yourself with the Swift? Maybe regular cleaning isn't enough, and it has to be really disinfected?
I've also read - e.g. in my cpap manual - that

Forgive me for asking the obvious: is you ENT aware that you're on CPAP therapy?"clinical research indicates that CPAP therapy may be contraindicated for patients with any of the following conditions:
<snip>
"Acute sinusitis (inflamation of the sinus cavity) otitis media (earache) or perforation of the tympanic membrane (eardrum)."

Jim:
I just gave up on the Swift (emergencies only) after a month.
Based on my and many others experiences it doesn't work for everyone. No one mask does.
There are alternatives but first make your therapy as easy as possible on your system.
A Nasal mask is less intrusive than a pillow system but maybe less comfortable - unless you include all the potential side effects of a pillow - pain, sinus issues, leaks, nose.
When they work they are great - when they don't well you know.
Claustra is a drag but anything can be adjusted to. SOme nasal masks are more comfortable than others - Nothing is as comfortable as no mask - WHADDA- YA GOING TO DO
Mask issues are #1 for xPAP non-compliance.
You are on the 10 yd line with your therapy - don't fumble now.
Good luck,
Tom
