humdifier Resmed autoset ii not working?

Post by fieldoflife » Fri Aug 10, 2012 4:59 pm

I have a Resmed autoset ii with humidifier, which I got from a supplier, but it's been a while, and I don't remember the instructions for using the humidifier. I had some trouble following the manual, and when I tested it after filling up the tank to just below the “max” line, putting on the mask, and starting according to instructions, I can't tell if it's working. I see in the manual that an “indicator light” should come on, but all I see on the machine is a small green light next to “heater on/off” text, which is on all the time. When I have the mask on, I can't feel any difference in the air when the humidifier is on and when it's off, even set at the highest humidity level. I would have expected to be feeling moisture through the mask and at the exhalation port. Is this correct? I’m using a standard nasal mask.

Someone else who knows more than me may chime in, but I have a backup S8. Have you tried scrolling through the clinicians menu? I think there is a menu item for the humidifier. You should see it when you scroll through; you can go into that menu item, and you may see something that confirms that the machine "sees" the humidifier.

You can always remove the water chamber, disconnect the humidifier from the blower and then reconnect them. Just to check if there was a bad contact.

Good luck.

On my S9, the cabinet gets warm on the end near the heater plate.
Is this check possible on the S8's?

You're looking at the correct light. It will be a steady green until it warms up. After that, you should see it on part of the time (while it's supplying heat) and off part of the time (when it shuts off the heating element because there's enough heat). Also if you see that the light's off, it should turn on if you increase the humidity. If the light never goes off, it's not working.

Mine warms up quickly, and it will be obvious if it's working if you touch the metal plate. Be careful, though, because it will be uncomfortably warm.

There is nothing in the menus to control the humidifier. It will only tell you whether a humidifier is hooked up.
