Respironics Premium Chin strap

Post by NeurosurgeryNP » Tue Mar 28, 2006 4:15 pm

Anyone use this chin strap - can you compare it to the Resmed strap? I currently use the Resmed, but have had problems with it falling off during the night. Just wanted input on the efficacy of the Respironics model. Thanks.

I've got one - it falls off during the night also unless I put it on so tight that my eyeball bulge out and it is a pain in the butt to adjust.

There is a strap called the Tiara which many others have given good reviews to (I haven't tried it myself) which seems to overcome the weaknesses of the others.

I have both the Resmed and Respironics chin straps that you're refering to and I much prefer the Resmed version! The elastic stretch of the Resmed strap is far more resiliant than the Respironics strap. Just my opinion.

Another one of those everyone is different with different preferences.

I have it and loved it when I used it. Have not had to use it for quite some time.

I have collected some links that you should look at if you are interested in different types.

The last link has several you might look at.

I have used the Respironics premium chinstrap but never found it worked very well, the side with the split splitting without strength and loosening. It wasnt worth much in a month or two. I then tried the Deluxe 3 inch band and found that if I put a twist in it, it would less cover my ears. I ran It as close to up and down to pull chin up and not back. I found it a bit warm but missed it when I left it at a hotel.
It seems that the breathware chinstrap would pull the jaw back which is not desirable.
I have been using the Sullivan chinstrap with the narrow band and chincup, all I could find on a Saturday, but it has turned out very well. I use the Breeze, set the sullivan as close to up and down and then run a piece of duct tape along the Breeze bar to hold it in that spot. I am trying to have it as far forward to keep the chin up without sliding off. It has been the same way for months now, the Breeze is over a year old, I average over seven hours a night, am a very active sleeper, starting on stomache and ending on back with everything in between. Unitizing the chinstrap into the Breeze make it a very good combo.

That sounds like a great idea. I'm going to give this a try and see how it works for me. I'm sick of taping. Thanks for the tip.

I got this chin strap in just yesterday and used it for the first time last night. I had the same issue with it that I had with the Pap Cap. The chin strap weakens during the night, so it starts out holding things tight and some hours later it's loose enough for my jaw to drop downward. I did not have a good night's rest given my airflow was not proper due to this issue.

Perhaps body heat makes the material weak? I'm not noticing any shift in positioning of the strap, so heat weakening the material is the only theory I can come up with.

If anyone is a fan of this chin strap though, you can get it dirt cheap on Amazon using this link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MJW18K/
That's how I got mine and it is the original Philips Respironics Premium Chin Strap in an original packaging bag with the manual. Less than $10 even with shipping, I don't feel bad testing it out at that price .

It seems Ruby Red is the only one that keeps my mouth shut all night long. Without having to resort to any drastic measures, such as taping my mouth shut .

I'm about ready to give up "testing" and just live with the fact Ruby Red is my only good option. The material does not irritate my skin, so I can live with it. And Ruby Red is the only one my insurance's "preferred vendor" supplies. So it's the only one that works and the one I can get through insurance. So it's all well enough.

Best chin strap design is one like the PurSleep PaPCap.

The stretchy single strap type are useless for the most part.

Best of the one's that I have used.Respironic strap work's well.Doesn't seem to last long.Problem with it stretching.I have been using the Ruby style. The first 2 I ordered&used were to big.The Ruby I'm using now is the standard size CPAP one.I like it. Seem's to be more comfortable & will not come off.Does take a little getting use to but I love it now.I have alway's had to pay for my strap's.But,the past month my employer has took over my care&cost of supplies. So the company that is monitoring my sleep now supplies me free with the Respironic Deluxe Chin Strap.I would just say it is really a personal choice that work's best for you.
