Heated humidfier cleaning

Post by Ric » Tue Mar 28, 2006 2:53 pm

After a week of travel and having only bottled drinking water to feed my humidifier, I find a slight buildup of calcium deposits on the inside of the plastic reservoir. Yup, it was probably mineral water. No distilled water available anywhere nearby at the time.

Question to this audience, has anybody tried the type of cleaner that is made for getting similar stuff off the insides of coffee pots. Seems a bid harsh, and I'm worried about the aluminum underside like maybe dissolving with that. Or maybe vinegar (mild acetic acid)? Same concerns. What works? What doesn't?

(And yes, I learned my lesson. Next time I bring the portable still.)

Ric,

I would think that some vinegar would work.....lots of people use it to flush their coffee makers.

On a different subject.....would you please change your avatar back to the Cookie Monster? He looks "friendlier".........and one I can relate to (especially if he's eating Oatmeal Raisin cookies).
Or is there a problem with using a commercial image like that?
OR.....is this what you REALLY look like???

Best to ya,

Den

I'm with the others. Just a mild solution, and maybe run a couple of reservoirs through.

Also, I want the big picture in your post for my avatar - that's right up my hillbilly Arkie alley.

And I hate to say I told you so - I always travel with a small bottle of distilled water and my funnel.

Make a 4 to 1 vineger solution and use hot water. I would not recommend using any cleaners other than that. Remember the build up and any chemicals assocaited with that build up will go directly into your lungs.

Thank you both, Ric, and Den (for asking) I found also the other avatar very upsetting - the stuff of nightmares.
