It will basically track how much light, deep, and REM sleep you are getting each night. I am a few weeks into treatment and far from compliant, but I have noticed that I seem to get a very odd proportion of REM sleep which leads me to believe I am in the midst of REM rebound when I do actually sleep. I expect this will even out to a more normal ratio once I get some period of time with full compliance and actual sleep (it is either/or at this point). I am able to track night to night and compare, watching for trends.

Something to consider. They are very easy to use and are apparently fairly accurate.
Rem Rebound!!! Another cpap thingy.

I have noticed lately I am starting to dream again . I suspect I never stopped but I am aware of them more and remembering them more. So what is this rem rebound??? Does it mean something?

I know I am at the beginning of all this and things are probably exposing themselves slowly (like sleep debt vs sleep craving) I actually feel i am craving it more than repaying a debt. On weekends I get up at 8 and by 10 I am done! Gotta go back to bed. I find myself saying Well it would be nice to be upright once in a while. I am sleeping a little longer during the night.. And I am not doing too badly with my fx quattro. Start off well and then I start leaking at the mouth area(never the eyes for some reason) Once the mouth leaks start, they don't want to negotiate. Its usually around 4-5. By then I have 5-6 hours and I figure I am ahead of the game. The first month, I had to arm wrestle to get that 4 hours.

No one has told me I am smarter yet<g>. Probably because linear thinking is not my strong suit....ooh, a bird!

I am just 6 nights into this thing and had 2 great nights of sleep but felt HORRIBLE those 2 days...slept on/off all day both days. So I hope I don't have long to be like that, I own a business and this time of year is slow so I can be a bit flexible but come October if I am not up to par, there will be a huge problem.

your sleep debt will be more quickly resolved that the health issues caused by OSA.
you will know when you are "recovered" by how well you sleep, your doctors assessment of your co-morbidities and how little daytime sleepiness you have.
also look for indicatores of how well your machine is keeping your airway open....snoring, morning headaches and keeping track of the card in your machine.

I think when you have sleep apnea, it interrupts, reduces or prevents you from getting the proper amount of REM sleep. I think the "rebound" is when you start to treat the apnea and obtain the proper amount of REM sleep. You dream more in REM sleep, so the you can tell when you are getting more REM sleep by the vivid dreams you have. I was talking to a sleep doctor and told him that on occasion, I will drift back to sleep for a half an hour on weekends. I notice that when I do that, I sometimes dream. I asked him how can I get to REM that quick. He just shrugged his shoulders.... dang... I wanted and answer!!

I agree with this 100% as it seems to be exactly pertaining to my issues. And also about the initial wake up during the early morning then seemingly into REM - dreaming, I experience this almost daily now and Zeo agrees. At first I thought the Zeo was playing games with me showing like 50% of my REM occurring after my 1st alarm but now I'm beginning to believe it. Glad you brought this up Sheriff.

Does the Zeo actually show you having REM sleep after you awaken and go back to sleep?

I've been using my BiPAP for about 5 weeks and this week seem to be getting some daytime sleepiness back, I don't know why. My numbers have not really changed. I do know I am sleeping more in long blocks of time and keeping the mask on continuously more without having to take it off and adjust it. My AHI is usually under 1 most nights. I am starting to remember dreaming more.

This morning I was feeling a little tired out and then remembered I had not taken any vitamin D in a while, something I am a little low on. So I popped 4000 IU of D3, then took some sublingual B for good measure, something I was doing religiously as a way of boosting my energy levels before I started CPAP. It worked then, but only up to a point. Hopefully this is my missing link. Seeing the sleep doctor today, so will be discussing with her.

Yep, pretty much like clockwork per night/morning (pardon the pun)

About a year after starting my sleep patterns changed so that I now need more sleep when under stress or extremely active and less sleep under other circumstances, but usually between 6-8 hours per night (i.e. "normal" sleep needs).

Everyone's experience is indeed difference, but this is mine =)
Hey, thanks for posting your experience here. I'm 2 months in, sleeping through the night and getting very good AHI numbers every night but feeling just as you described, "like I got no sleep." Reading about your experience made me think there's still hope of improvement. Thanks.
