Trimming nose hair and shaving cut my leaks in half.
EDIT: I changed my original stupid subject line because it was confusing. This post is about how facial hair trimming can cut leaks by more than half; indeed in my case almost to zero.
For the last half month, my leaks had been getting worse. I figured it was my nasal pillows getting old or maybe I was tossing or turning more. Then about seven days ago, just before bedtime, I was looking in the mirror and noticed my nose hairs were getting too long (groan... ewwww). So,I trimmed 'em back with my weedwhacker, and while I was at it, I also took my razor and shaved off the stubble around my nares (the nose holes) and the area below. After a good nights sleep, the next morning I popped my SD card in Sleepyhead and, lo and behold, I had almost no leaks. That hasn't happened in a really really long time. I haven't tried this 'night shaving' technique and nose hair removal with a full face mask or a nasal mask, but, men (women?), if your stubble is totally gone it seems to help make a better seal. Plus a little dab of Lanisnol lubricant doesn't doesn't go amiss.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Glancing into the twin caverns of hubby's Mount Schnorkel, I can definitely see what you mean.

Mt Snorkel, only you could come up with that chunkyfrog. My wife routinely uses: King Proboscis. The Wizard of Shnoz. Mt Snoremore (although the latter not so much anymore).

I sport a fairly thick caterpillar under my nose and my DME said that it might be an issue. So I trimmed it back, and now have found over time that fairly thick is just fine no leaks. Nose hair inside or out should be trimmed so as not to tickle or itch with your mask on. How many times have I got settled in and pressured up only to need to scrach or rub my nose... I do a little nose massage before my mask goes on and this seems to help some.

Sorry about the hijack, SNO.
Facial hair is always a problem--who knew nasal hair was too.
Is electric or blade shaving preferred?

For nasal pillow people, shaving around and under the nostrils will be enough. I just use a regular disposable razor that has a lube strip on it... that way I don't have to wait so long for the whiskers to soften. Remember, I'm only doing a touch up (off?) under and around my nose, plus I do this just before I go to bed. FFM guys will have to probably shave as regular.chunkyfrog wrote:Sorry about the hijack, SNO.

For nose hairs: I've got one of those pairs of small rounded nose scissors gals seem to keep in their cosmetic kits. The rounded ends are small and reasonably safe to use in one's nostrils. I'm always very slow and cautious when I trim the Thunder Forest because one wrong nip and the nasal pillows will be resting on an open wound. Haven't cut myself yet, thankfully. I know there are battery operated nose hair trimmers out there, but most of the reviews I read on Amazon weren't too good... I wouldn't mind if other members gave some recommendations.

Re: Trimming nose hair and shaving cut my leaks in half.
I have a horseshoe mustache and use a nasal pillow. I haven't had a leak problem yet. My nose did get sore when I first started using it but I had a tube of bacitracin and decided to try a light coat of that on the underside of my nose and it seems to work miracles. No soreness at all.
