Recommend DME: "CPAP Success" in Fremont CA or other?

Post by AHI15 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 2:29 pm

Hi:

I checked for what DMEs are covered by my insurer, since I am still waiting to hear from Apria, about which I am getting cold feet since their reviews are not lovely.

I found this one which seems interesting due to their focus on CPAP, staff, and background:

http://www.cpapsuccess.com/

Ever hear of "CPAP Success?"

Others on the list from my insurer are:

1. Apria
2. Lifecare Solutions -- seems potentially worse than Apria
3. Lincare Inc
4. Respicare
5. Tenspede Medical

Anything positive or otherwise to say about the ones on this list?

Thanks for comments.

You will only know if you check them out--more than likely after you try to get something from them.
A nice web page isn't everything--but it's not overdone. . .
Sounds like you have a few choices; --More than many of us.

Be prepared to play them off against one another. "My current DME won't give me the machine I want. Will you?"

If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check for yourself.

Be prepared to play them off against one another. "My current DME won't give me the machine I want. Will you?"
Whoa, I don't think that will work. When someone calls me and says something like that, the red flags raise HIGH. It signals to me that this is going to be a lousy, needy, time-consuming client who will be a pain in the neck and then not pay me.

I would suggest this approach:
"I'm looking for the ResMed S9 Autoset. Can you provide me with one?" The response to this will speak volumes about the DME. If the answer is "yes, we have them. Please get us a copy of your prescription and we'll start there", you might be OK with them--at least you can open up a dialog. If the answer is ""Most insurers don't cover those, but we have other machines you can get." you know not to waste any more of your time with that DME.

Where you can play them against each other is if they start to play games after you're engaged in the process (not the initial phone call). If they try to play the "we don't have that one available" or "you have to pay extra for that", then it's time to whip out the "X DME said they could give it to me immediately and without an upcharge, but I want to do business with you if you're willing to drop that charge" game. NOW you're in the driver's seat.

It seems to have worked for quite a few people, but maybe it should be worded a little more tactfully. Or start with acting nice before mentioning the competition.

You may have already noticed this but one of the founders, a sleep medicine physician, has apnea. I wonder if that might cause him and his wife, the other one, to provide good customer service having first hand experience with the condition. Not a guarantee obviously but it does make me wonder.

I might tend to run to run away from a place that had a room full
of mobility vehicles and power chairs just inside the door;
except the worst crook DME here only had cpap stuff.
