Good for you! You know well both edges of chemicals' swords, the help and the effect that sometimes does not help. Some of this stuff you have to be very careful of, even fairly "benign" stuff. I was doing myself a big disservice with something as simple as generic Excedrin. My sleep neurologist pointed this out, I cleared myself of the problem and I'm better for it and the effects of generic Excedrin is mere "puppy" stuff compared to a lot of drugs, and not just the common addictives. We have to tread carefully ...lliann wrote:when I work with addicts

I used to be a pseudo-ephedrine and real ephedrine user, mostly to get that extra kick in sports events. Now at 65 it's caused my prostate to tie itself up in knots once or twice a month. What does that feel like: Imagine someone sticking a pair of red hot tongs up your posterior and giving your prostrate a big squeeze. Trust me, you don't want to go there. How do you alleviate your prostate symptoms: At first sign of an attack you absolutely have to put on a rubber glove and give your sphincter a digital massage... it's the only thing that works. Aspirin zero, hot pads zero, praying, well it can't hurt. Of course if you are in public, you've got a big problem cuz most people don't want to see that. This isn't a prank post... everything I told you is absolutely true, tho a bit OT.MaxDarkside wrote:Dr. says he'd prescribe me Nuvigil or Provigil. Instead when I need a bit of boost due to grog, I reach for pseudo-ephedrine with a half-life of 4.3–8 hours, but then the 12 hr release stuff rather complicates the half-life calculation. As an experiment, I've been taking one 1/2 12 hr caplet at 8 AM, the other half at noon which gets me shy of bed time (I can feel it wear off) and I sleep well, *BUT* my grog seems to be worsening over time (a pseudo-ephedrine rebound, perhaps?) so starting tomorrow for a week, none of that, and I'll just deal with the grog for a while. I'll try to see if the pseudo-ephedrine is causing a rebound worsening the grog. Gotta watch out for them meds, they can treat short term, but can cause the problem to worsen too.
I do not recommend this or any drug for anyone. Talk to yer doc. If my wife takes pseudo-ephedrine, she did once recently, with her hyper-adrenal problem, she about exploded. Ephedrine is adrenaline. Pseudo-ephedrine is a diastereomer of ephedrine, that means the same compound, just twisted a certain way.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Ok, sorry, I had to laugh at that. Trust me, I know. We wimmen got our own good times with aging. Have to admit, its nice that there is at least one medical condition I don't have.Sir NoddinOff wrote:[

However, I have taken expelling gas to a whole new level. I'm thinking about getting a kazoo and seeing if I can make real music.

That is the under statement of the year!chunkyfrog wrote:I still feel that many docs are more inclined to keep someone on a drug, rather than delve down to the root cause,

Oh phooey! I just wrote a long reply and it got lost somewhere.
Anyway, I did have problems with falling asleep but I solved that initially by forcing myself to ignore what was going on with the cpap and mask. "Think of something else, like being on a clean white beach with palm trees and crystal clear water!" I did take a very mild herbal sedative for a few days but I found I could fall asleep without the. too. All those sleeping pills and waking up pills are not a good scene and with time your body may just adjust to what's going on...
HTH
chearyshe!!
OTish
ps.....I do a lot of tootin' too but I claim it's "squeaky shoes". I seem to be able to adjust the noise to each step!
