Swift LT vs Aloha

Post by KimberlyM » Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:42 am

Has anyone used both? Which do you prefer? Could you please name the pros and cons for both--specifically the comfort of the headgear and leak rate. I currently use the Swift LT and I am considering an Aloha. Thank you in advance!

I have used both. I used the Swift LT until the release of the Swift FX so for well over a year.
The Aloha fits pretty much like the Swift LT. If you like the Swift LT then you probably will like the Aloha. Stability is about the same. The Aloha is lighter and more comfortable on the face than the LT was. No real need for extra padding on the side things with the Aloha as the marks were minimal to none. I think the Aloha was easier to get and keep a good seal than the Swift LT was though it wasn't all that difficult with the LT. I guess I would say it is more comfortable to get and keep a good seal with the Aloha.

I used the Aloha the whole month of April this year when it first came out. It's a keeper for sure. It ranks real close behind my Swift FX as my preferred mask. For me the Aloha was what I wished the Swift LT could have been. The side things on the LT sort of dug into cheek much closer to my eyes than I liked. Not so much as uncomfortable as just annoying to have them there.
I didn't ever really notice the side things with the Aloha. I found the Aloha to be extremely quiet. Vent noise was pretty much non existent. Rather like the Swift FX and the Swift FX was hugely more quiet than the LT. My husband noticed it right away.

Kimberly, I personally like Aloha more than Swift LT.
Comforts wraps come in the Aloha box with the kit. You don't get the comfort wraps with Swift LT, I think you can buy some separately or have pad-a cheek make them. Swift exhaust vents blow straight at your partner where you can angle the Aloha exhaust up or down. Aloha goes over the head nicely which is a big plus when you change sides wile sleeping. You can't put the Swift LT over you head.
If you read the reviews on cpap.com you'll get a lot of comments comparing the Aloha to the Swift FX and the Swift LT. The Aloha is rated the highest of all the masks,( although the Swift FX is a close second). Also something I've noticed about the Aloha, the large pillows are a tiny bit smaller that other larges and the mediums are a tiny but larger than the other pillows which makes for a much better fit. I haven't read of anyone needing ayr or lanolish or any other gel for the Aloha, even for the first few nights.
I feel I should mention that the Swift LT is a very good mask, also. I have both.

I forgot headgear and leak rate stuff.
It has been a long time since I used the swift LT...like nearly 2 years now I guess so I don't really remember much about headgear except the side things. That was my biggest annoyance with the LT and just something I accepted and also why the Swift FX appealed so much to me. I was sort of afraid that the Aloha's similar side things would also annoy me but they really were a non issue. Leak rate..the Aloha maintained a great seal with it being ridiculously loose on my face even with all my tossing and turning. The LT also gave me a great leak rate but it had to be a bit more snug. For me the Aloha did everything that the Swift LT did but did it a lot more comfortably.

The swift LT for her does come with wraps for the sides.. I have never tried the Aloha. I go back and forth between the Swift LT and the Swift FX. I think I will try the pilario and Aloha next time I order a mask.

I prefer the Swift FX as its less on my face and lighter in weight.

Yes, they do and I found that they were not sufficient padding to suit me and added Padacheeks side covers for the LT.
So I did try the ones that came with the LT but still had noticeable cheek marks. Not quite enough padding for me.
With the Aloha the little covers that come with it are sufficient and I didn't feel the need to add further padding.

Thanks everyone for your great detailed responses. I may have to try the Aloha. I have been using the Swift FX, but I am tired of struggling with the hose and it disrupts my sleep. I've tried using a hose hanger and router it overhead. I even made a strap to the top of the FX mask and routed it through like the Swift LT, but the hose is heavy and it moves the mask unless I have it tightened. The new FX pillows seem to leak and I have noticed a quality change in them--they seem thinner. Kind of a bummer because I just bought a new Swift FX from my DME and it is sitting here new waiting on me. I've gone back to my old Swift LT mask and kinda like the no-hassle sleep I have been getting, but like Pugsy, I am kind of bothered by the side piece. It's tolerable, but I am used to burying my face into my pillow with the FX. Sounds like it might be time to explore my options again. I appreciate every ones input!

I think th FX is too hard to get a good seal. I have one but but ended up going back to my Swift Lt. I like what everyone had to say about the aloha, it sounds like what I need. I think I will be ordering that one next month when I am eligible for a new mask. Good feedback everyone!
