Chin straps suggestions
Chin straps suggestions
I have the respironics premium, but it makes the top of my head sore where it comes together and velcros. If I losen it, then it is useless. Can anyone please suggest a good chin strap that is not too hot or bulky and does not cause pain on the top of the head. All suggestions are very appreciated!

Re: Chin straps suggestions
For the last 4 months I have been using an inexpensive Velcro ear muff/wrap from the dollar store. It works great, and even though it is fleece, it is breathable and washable and adjustable. I have a more expensive model purchased form my provider, but the dollar store item works bet for me.
Re: Chin straps suggestions
I use the Puresom Ruby Adjustable Chin Strap. I don't find it hot but YMMV. It is adjustable at the top and behind the head.

I tried the PapCap and, while it is cotton and probably cooler, the cap was too big for my head. The front came down over my forehead and partially covered my eyes. I guess I have a really small head.

Wash it in real hot water in the wash machine and then dry on high heat in the drier it will shrink cause it's cotton. I did mine that way and it fits OK now.Beckah54 wrote:I tried the PapCap and, while it is cotton and probably cooler, the cap was too big for my head. Re: Chin straps suggestions
Same problem here with the PapCap. I do really appreciate it's concept thought and will likely give it another try in the winter months because unfortunately for me also, the PapCap gave me the impression that it was making my head a little too hot or likely just claustrophobic do to it covering my eyes by the morning. I don't think it was due to the actual material as that felt comfortable.Beckah54 wrote:........I tried the PapCap and, while it is cotton and probably cooler, the cap was too big for my head. Re: Chin straps suggestions
Thanks for the tip, squid. I'll try washing and drying as you suggested. I did like the concept but I'm like lazer...waking up in the morning with my eyes covered was driving me crazy.squid13 wrote:Wash it in real hot water in the wash machine and then dry on high heat in the drier it will shrink cause it's cotton. Re: Chin straps suggestions
I use 3 inch non-adhesive Ace bandage. It's cheap and somewhat breathable. I make 4 turns and secure it with safety pins. It's a bit of a trick to put it back on every night until you get used to it. I throw it away when it becomes grungy.
If it doesn't work, you're out a few bucks.

Re: Chin straps suggestions
My biker bandanna/chinstrap was pretty effective/also MY size; but too hot.
I need to dig out my pattern and find some moisture-wicking fabric.

Re: Chin straps suggestions
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Last night I got so frustrated with my chin strap that I ended up using a regular stretchy hair band. I wrapped the band around my head then put the mask on top. I switched masks to the Mirage resmed fx instead of using my nasal pillows. I then velcrod part of the lower straps to the band on the sides of my face. It seemed to keep my jaw from dropping during the night and did not give my head the same pain as my respironics chin strap. It would have been better to have more tension on the band, but just a temp fix anyway. I would like to try the
Puresom Ruby Chinstrap next and see if I have better success with it.

Re: Chin straps suggestions
Hi,
Just thought I'd share what I do, since I've tried a few chinstraps including the papcap (which technically is the most professionally built buy my chin still slacks a bit ).
I am using a neck support called caldera neck rest and it works for me to prevent that slack that really makes a huge difference for my events. Otherwise I wake up feeling like I've been run over by a truck (I think the slack allows my events to last longer).

Re: Chin straps suggestions
I think Kiralynx has been using the neck support method for quite some time and she swears by it's effectiveness.
As for the Ruby and other chinstraps made of stretchy material, they all generally not effective.
The biker bandanna/chinstrap is a good cheap way that is the next best thing to a PapCap for those who prefer simpler less expensive alternative.

Re: Chin straps suggestions
I went with the home-made because I knew my PapCap would have to be custom-tailored for my itty-bitty froggy noggin.
