I went to walmart and bought a 3 drawer plastic unit on wheels for $17.95, sits right next to my bed. Cpap is on top and "stuff" goes in the drawers and hose is routed up over my headboard. I have a one inch rubber kneeling pad under my machine to deaden any sound. Bought that at dollar store, cut it in half and use the other half in the motorhome. In the motorhome I put the machine in the upper cabinet over my head and just ran the hose down to my face, have never had a rainout problem.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

we have a matching bedroom set with matching bedside cabinets that our twin cpap's sit on. the tops of the cabinets are even with the top of the mattress. due to space restrictions the cpap's are no more than 2' from us at pretty much head level. the hoses come across to the bed from the machine and hang down a little between the bed and cabinets. the machines are very quiet, so we don't have noise problems. we never have rainout problems. we never get tangled in the hose so we don't need any hose hanger contraptions. i feel blessed that all this works for us. i'd hate to have some of the issues other folks have. i feel no need to change anything, nor do i wonder if something else would work better.

Mine sits on a nightstand along with a lamp. It is exactly even with the top of my mattress. The hose hangs between the machine and the bed. I have never had a rainout problem.

The floor is bad for a few reasons.

1) Thats where the dirt is. You don't want that sucked into the machine. Dust bunnies belong on the floor, not in the cpap machine or your mask.
2) Carpet is a very good insulator. That means part of the machine can get hot. There is a very high speed motor in there and the case needs a bit of airflow to disipated heat.
3) Dust mite remains - they tend to be mostly in your sheets but the floor is good for them too. Its not good to breath these things.

Some people say pressure changes but 20 on a cpap is about 500 feet of air.
Some say rainout. I think its best to have the low point in the hose or the humidifier. If your getting more rainout than that, you may have other problems or avoid typhoons for a while.

Some people put it in a drawer. As long as it can suck in enough air without restriction, I don't see a problem but it should be a hole about the side of a golf ball or bigger and away from where it can suck in dirt or dust mites.

The general advice is a bed side table lower than your pillow is best.

I have the same set- up as LSAT of equal height to the mattress and machine, and never had a rain- out. Rain- out has to do with the room temp vs the air in the hose after the humidifier. My room temp is 75+ F and the air coming out from the mask (which I measured) is almost 80 F, the humidifier is set to 5. Also, if you use a sturdy mask and not a flimsy pillows then the weight of the air- hose pulling down is not an issue.

Unfortnately my nightstand is actually taller than my bed and I have a small room. So the floor is the only place for my machine. Even though my room is dusty my little white filter is not dirty and I haven't changed it since I got the machine back on 5/11/12.

Think Thrift store--use your nose to weed out the ones with stinkies.
Feel free to cut holes, etc--whatever makes it work.
I've found such cute pieces, but no room right now--gotta wait until we move.

Unless it's really tightly sealed, airflow in a drawer shouldn't be a problem. The CPAP pushes all the air it blows through the tiny little vent holes in the mask. Any regular drawer is going to have a lot larger opening for air than that.
Just don't have anything else in the drawer like clothing that could restrict airflow into the air inlet on the back of the machine.

Be sure that wherever you put it, if the humidifier springs a leak, the water won't get deep enough to get into your CPAP machine.

I have a step stool with a rubber top that I've placed mine on....much lower than my bed.

When I was at the Sleep Conference in Boston last month, I was fortunate enough to meet the owner of a company that makes CPAP holders that fit on the side of your bed between your mattress and box springs. These look very unobtrusive and should work to help with rain out as well. Anyone who may be interested in this can certainly give Mark at CPAPHOLDERS a call.

Wow, Karen what an idea. It would be so easy to make, a piece of plywood, shoved between your mattress and box spring, let it stick out enough to hold your machine and devise a strap to tie it to the board. Great idea!!!!
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Wow. He has some nice looking furniture. That side opening is a slick idea. We had a custom cabinet made to hold our entertainment system, complete with slide-out for turntable (remember those?). Well worth if you were planning to invest in decent quality furniture anyway.
