I overnighted the machine and I have it setup but of course questions come up.
1. Are there any default values for the other settings like the alarms and rise time and tidal volume.
2. How does the humidifier work? You press the button and it says "heat" on the LCD, but how do you adjust the heat level. I am sure this is quite easy I just haven't stumbled on to it.
3. I have encore 1.8.49 but it doesn't list have the BiPAP Auto SV advanced listed. It does have the one without the Advanced listed but that won't work. Do I need a different version of Encore?
4. It came with a provider manual but the manual doesn't have "Advanced" stated on the cover. I found a link to one but it also doesn't seem quite right. Some of the buttons are labeled differently. Are they the same? The link given to me by Second Wind CPAP links to a Respironics site in the EU. Are there different machines being sold around the world? This is the Legacy version. Anyone have some older links to this machine.
Thanks again,
Russ

See if this old post links to the legacy manual you need:

This recent discussion about alarms might help:

The left-most up and down buttons control the humidifier. The up button turns the humidifier on. That same button also increases the humidification setting once the humidifier is turned on. The down button, directly below that, decreases the humidification setting once the humidifier is turned on. Humidification levels can be adjusted from 1 to 5.
Others here might be able to help with your Encore and other questions.

The sleep lab is open and the doctor is in:
Make sure you start out tonight with the following settings:
EPAP Min=4cm
EPAP Max=15cm
PS Min=4cm (auto-BiPAP as base modality)
PS Max=20cm
Max Pressure=25cm
Rate=Auto
BiFlex=3
Depending how you subjectively respond, and after 7 days (since it is a used machine), you will adjust EPAP Min and PS Min according to the 90% EPAP 7 Day Average and the PS 7 Day Average (straight off your device) in order to obtain your optimal AHi 7 Day Average.
Please keep us in the loop. Good luck!

Re: ASV Legacy setup
Ok, the first night was not a grand slam but I think I am on the right track. I didn't fall asleep until 7:00AM and I took that time to study the machine and got it setup to what was listed above. I still didn't sleep for more then an hour or two at the most, but what would usually happen is during that one hour I would start to feel a pain developing in my head and when I wake I usually would feel a dull ache developing which would accumulate until a major headache started. This time, that didn't happen!
Ten to twenty years of this and perhaps I am now finally on the right track?? I need to keep trying but I will try and remain hopeful. I can't tell you how many times I thought I had figured out what the cause of this grief and misery was only to find out in a few days the pain would return. I think maybe it was always untreated CSA?
Most of the machines settings seem to be focused on OSA and the CSA part being set to auto takes care of that part? I have been forcing myself to sleep on my side and maybe that is helping with the OSA. So the main problem is being treated with the machine being set on Auto to hopefully take care of the lack of breathing from CSA.
My other issue that is also a major problem is my sinus closing up from the rush of air. I was hoping that maybe the CSA caused this but it still happened last night. This leads to infections and pressure build up which can also cause a headache. Nothing I have tried so far has kept the sinus open at night. I tried to plug my nose and force myself to mouth breathe but that felt like I was being gagged. I put a small straw in my mouth to force my mouth to remain open and that helped a little bit. I hope the only answer isn't surgery, which I of course can't afford. I may try and buy that mask that looks like a snorkel and only fits in the mouth.
I will continue to follow the advise in this thread and post back on the progress.
Thanks very much,
Russ

Set the device to Risetime=3.uriahsky wrote: My other issue that is also a major problem is my sinus closing up from the rush of air.
Your device will run with a BiFlex setting or a Risetime setting,
However, running BiFlex or RiseTime will automatically disable the other setting.
As SWS stated, both BiFlex and Risetime are comfort settings.
A RiseTime of 3 will minimize the rush of air when you inhale.
Open your mouth and breathe into the mask when your nasal passages are blocked.
While you are breathing through your mouth, wait for your nostril closure to subside and re-open.
Sometimes this takes a few minutes.
The ASV will provide adequate relief when breathing through only one nostril.

Re: ASV Legacy setup
I have been lloking the the Provider Manual provided by SWS. There Is no 90% EPAP 7 Day Average and PS 7 Day Average and AHi 7 Day Average built into the Respironics Legacy ASV.Banned wrote:Depending how you subjectively respond, and after 7 days (since it is a used machine), you will adjust EPAP Min and PS Min according to the 90% EPAP 7 Day Average and the PS 7 Day Average (straight off your device) in order to obtain your optimal AHi 7 Day Average.
