Best way to get a flat bottom is to not eat the bundt cake (snickers).

The sad thing is that I put in 1-1/3 cups flour and 1-1/3 cups sugar when it called for 1-1/2 of each (I thought the measuring cup I was using was a 1/2, not a 1/3!), so it may be bad anyway.

Why does it need to be flat? Who sees it? It's on the bottom. My wife says the weight of the cake will somewhat flatten it.

It's visible from the side. Instead of the bundt design going all the way down to the plate, it looks like a mushroom. It's an issue of aesthetics. The weight won't flatten it.

Suzjohnson wrote:It's a pain, isn't it? I've managed a couple of times to get it pretty flat trimming it with an electric knife but it can turn into a complete disaster too. Usually I will get the cake out of the pan onto a cookie sheet, then put the cake plate or whatever you want to serve it from on the flat bottom. Then, very carefully flip the whole thing over so the curved top ends up on top. Much prettier that side up if you are finishing with a glaze rather than a thick frosting. Have you done a search on YouTube? I remember seeing somewhere someone cutting cake layers into thinner layers with thread. Perish the thought!

This really works and is easier to keep even than with a knife!

Well phooey! Did it turn out at all?

When you put the batter in the pan, instead of just leveling it, push the batter toward the sides so there is a valley around the middle. It will fill in and level a bit.

Otherwise, who cares? Fill in the gap with frosting!

SU, you inspired me. I made an orange jello w/mandarin oranges and chopped black walnuts today. And it actually turned out good!

I just may buy some frozen cookie dough, maybe the M&M frozen cookie dough, and make some cookies tomorrow! Maybe.

I'm with Catnapper on forming the wet batter with a dip in the middle,
but sometimes the oven temperature is uneven, so you may even need to turn the pan while it is baking.
(keep the bottom down.)

Why turn the cake over? Keep it right side up. It still tastes the same!

I just downloaded a no knead oatmeal bread and will be starting it as soon as I'm off the computer. I really like the no kneading part!
SU, I'm so glad it worked out and hope you enjoy every bite!
