M Series Pricing

Post by greyhound » Wed Mar 22, 2006 12:52 pm

Wow! Looks like a huge Respironics price increase for their new M series. The Plus with c-flex will sell for $499 (on cpap.com), compared to $375 for the previous model.

Aside from size, I wonder what else you get for the money.

Other than the footprint:

1. Has the algorithm changed?
2. What about Software for the new Model?

Thanks,

I don't think the "free" version 1.5 of the software will work on the M series. So you'll probably have to add another $100 to the price.

1. No Auto released yet.
2. Nothing on the smart card but compliance in the model that has been released so no need for software.

I've heard (but don't know this for a fact) that:

A. the algorithym hasn't changed. Still the same as in the previous Respironics machines.

B. will use a new version of the software. Previous versions of Encore Pro won't work with the M series machines.

As Brent said, the "Plus", whether old or new, doesn't give the kind of juicy details we want to see. Just compliance (hours of use.) So, software for any Respironics "Plus" machine wouldn't tell you the stuff you want to know.

It's the doctors, DME's, and insurance companies that dote on "hours of use". If they ever bother to even check that. Most just leave you to your own devices (no pun intended.)

Here is some information as posted on one vendor's site.

They hide the humidifier?

You'd think the price of the Remstar Series would go down a little. With all new electronics there usually comes a price-drop in the previous models. Of course, this is CPAPs were talking and not TV's, computers, etc.

I wouldn't think that many people will hold off on purchasing a CPAP just becuase of a new model. I highly doubt that someone would hold off to buy an M-series versus a Remstar, as most people don't keep up model introductions and industry news. Of course, were not most people and were one sick crowd!

That is not actually true for me. If I want an Auto I will likely have to buy my own. I expect to travel to Europe in the fall. If I buy an Remstar Auto I would prefer the newer, smaller one. I'm waiting on user feedback. I'll may choose to persist with my stupid old antique Remstar until then.
