cms50d or cm50dl, which one?

Hi All, I want to import S02 data into sleepyhead, and on checking this forum I found a thread which talked about the cms50dl being the one. Bought it, no datalink facility so its useless!!, can someone point in the right direction, need the cheapest option.

The CMS 50D is NOT capable of recording overnight oxygen levels. Useful for spot checking only.

The CMS 50D Plus is capable of recording overnight oxygen levels and works well with SleepyHead.

The CMS 50DL is for spot checking...like the 50 D. Not capable of anything other than immediate spot check.

You need to look for overnight recording capabilities and software... you get what you pay for. Spot checking pulse oximeters cost less but not hugely less.

The cheapest that I know of is the CMS 50D Plus....please note the word Plus...that is important.

You can shop the web to find the least costly...direct from China is probably the cheapest.

The CMS50EW is well worth looking at; $119 delivered and it includes BLUETOOTH connectivity(or USB), lithium battery, 24 hrs. recording time, etc. I have been using the E series for some time and they are also rugged. I thought I had lost one to being dropped in the water.... I removed the battery immediately and tried to blow dry it. No dice. Good thing I didn't throw it out. The beast came back to life a few weeks later as I was cleaning and about to toss it. I also have an original CMS50E that takes the proprietary USB cable and now that I have a cable again (Thanks again.... you know who you are) it works well for me and I often drag one with me when I am away from home, knowing that I always have a spare backup. I am a scientist and an IT Administrator by education and am anal when it comes to total redundancy of important equipment and your pulse oximeter is every bit is important as that data coming out of your CPAP, etc.

If you want to spend a little more, you might look at the 50I. I have not used it (been thinking about it) but it is supposed to record data over multiple nights, not just the one.

Thanks guys, you've really highlighted how important it is to have one of these devices I should have bought one a while back, luckily I bought from Amazon so I will return it. I think I will try the cms50d-plus as a first foray, but thanks for mentioning the higher spec devices, I will make a note for when I get a back up!!

the cms50d+ does the basic stuff that a pulse ox does. my real life example is i bought one to show my wife how her o2 was dropping when she didn't use her mask. it showed that it was dropping so she paid more attention to using the mask. then i put it on her again to show her how the o2 improved with cpap. wrong answer. her o2 was still low. we informed the doc and also gave her a copy of the report. she ordered a professional overnite o2 test with cpap from the dme with the big expensive pulse ox to justify o2 with tricare if neccessary. it confirmed my numbers on the cms50d+ and an o2 concentrator was delivered that day. the pulse oximeter is more than a nice to have toy. if i hadn't bought it we would not know her o2 was still dropping with cpap.

Is the CMS 50 EW compatible with SleepyHead?

I ordered one from China, made it all the way to my hometown and the mail carrier accidentally delivered it to the wrong address on the wrong road. After 2 days with the Post Office, finally found a person that seemed to care and left a note for our mail carrier. She immediately knew where she had left it and went by after work and picked it up and brought it to me.
I ordered one, because I suspected that my oxygen levels were low while I was sleeping. I wore it last night for the first time and was quite surprised to find my levels holding up very well. It only dipped to 88 one time for approx. 5 seconds and started climbing back up. It average around 93 for most of the night. I believe anyone with SA ought to invest in one and occasionally check their readings to be safe.
I'm glad to hear that you and your wife caught that when you did! Hope everything turns out well for you both! Also good to hear that the unit was accurate, as that is the unit I purchased!
