sore on nose
sore on nose
Hi everyone. I just woke up a couple mornings ago with a sore on the base of my nose. I was just curious as to whether anyone else has had this problem and whether or not anyone has a solution to it. I think its just really dry, but my mask also rests there sometimes if I move a certain way.
Re: sore on nose
Lots of people get those, myself included. Here are a few things you might try:
1) Get a Pad-a-cheek mask liner. They are a soft fabric that goes between the mask and your skin. Super-comfy and dry really quickly. Unlike other mask liners (like Remzzz), they are reusable, which is better on the environment and less expensive. http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html ResMed also makes a Gecko nasal pad. I bought one but haven't used it because it is too expensive to replace as frequently as needed.
2) Adjust your mask straps so they're not too tight. You want to find that sweet spot between controlling the leaks and also keeping your nose bridge free of the rubbing that causes the sores. And, oddly enough, sometimes too-tight straps can actually cause leaks. So you can experiment with loosening the straps; you won't necessarily cause leaks. Are you using a Mirage Quattro? It's hard to tell from the picture and I don't know all the different kinds of masks. If it is a Mirage Quattro, Janknitz has an excellent article on how to fit it properly. Her technique applies to my Quattro FX too, so maybe if you have a different mask, this technique will work for you. http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/taming ... e-quattro/
To heal your nose sore, whenever you are at home and not expecting visitors, pierce a Vitamin E and rub a bit of the oil on the sore. Let it sit until you want to see people or before masking up. It takes mine 2-3 days to heal completely.

Re: sore on nose
If this is on the area your mask rests on, a liner should help,
If you need something NOW,
you can cut a quickie substitute out of a soft bit of clean fabric, like an old T-shirt.
Just make a paper pattern by tracing around your cushion, inside and out;
add about a quarter inch to make it wider; and cut your fabric out.
If the sore is in the crack between your nostrils and your face,
maybe a little lanolin will soothe without hurting the silicone.

Re: sore on nose
Thanks everyone. The sore healed up and I adjusted my straps better, so that seemed to work pretty well so far. Thank you anyways Becky!
