Wait, so how/where did you apply the denture strips? Between your top and bottom lips, or between your top and bottom teeth? Don't worry I won't try this at home, I obviously don't know what I'm doing yet!

Original purpose for denture strips was/is obviously to hold the dentures in place.

Those that want to make use of the adhesive qualities of denture strips for cpap leak preventing will place the strips between the lips.

Thanks as usual Pugsy! So, I've been thinking about this whole mouth-taping/gluing/masking deal. I'm starting to envision my own version of something to encourage mouth closure and at the same time slow down leakage should the mouth open a little. Not that I have the energy to start sewing right now, but when I feel better... A cotton, maybe even organic cotton piece of cloth that covers the mouth and is held in place with the equivalent of bella-type loops. Then put your own chin strap on per usual. Kind of inspired by that ultimate chin strap concept but I'm imagining something more lightweight and less cumbersome.

My data is suggesting I can sleep fairly well with what robysue calls middle-size leaking, and no events occurring. If that's true, then a comfortable cloth mouth cover fastened securely but not super tight should just help keep the mouth "reminded" to stay closed, and should slow down escaping air if it starts happening. Also no problem to get out of it in a hurry if need be, or burp if/when necessary. Just thinkin....

This is probably where I first read about it, posted right before I started cpap. (A belated thanks to linda b).

I just bent them in a slight v shape, wetted in my mouth, and pressed between my lips. After two years I didn't need them anymore.

I have a question for the Poligrip users. What is the easier to do, to use the strips or the cream? It seems it glues fast one or the other kind. What is the difference?

Is it easy to wipe the Poligrip in the morning and open the mouth (I'm not joking I know nothing about)? What about if you droll, is it going to dissolve the Poligrip ?

I was taping (never with ductape ) using 3M surgical paper tape. Only a 1/2 inch in the front of the lips, previously rolled up inside. After maybe 6 months I started to have problems with my skin, the tape ripping off the skin. Sadly I had to stop tapping and start fighting with a chin strap.

I would like to try Poligrip.

Thanks for the answers .

I used the paste/cream. It tastes nasty... first time I tried it I used WAY too much and liked to never got it all off the next morning...think bits of glue everywhere.
If I had it to do over again....I would use the strips.
It wasn't so bad once I realized that a little of the paste goes a long, long way.
I bought the paste because where I bought it didn't have the strips for some reason.
I ended up preferring the cheap blue painter's tape so didn't buy any more of it.

It actually does a surprisingly decent job despite the moisture.
Best thing to do...experiment with it for about an hour before bedtime to get the feel of it and its limitations.

Thanks Pugsy I will buy some Poligrip straps ASAP. My tooth is slowly starting to ache again even using the home made chin strap, I came back to the Headrest a couple of days ago. Maybe with Poligrip I will be able to relax the jaw more.

Denture cream never worked for me. Messy, foul tasting, hard to use consistent amount, hard to clean off. The Poligrip strips just taste like cardboard and are always the right amount and the same stickiness once you learn the correct amount of moisture (I would just put it in my mouth and suck it for two seconds, then place it on my lips with my tongue). If you have to (easily) open your mouth just a simple rewetting with your tongue, clamp your lips again and you are good to go back to sleep. By morning it has dried a little and wipes off easily with kleenix, like a small amount of putty. It soon becomes a quick and easy part of your bedtime routine.

I found that the full width strips makes too much gunk between my lips, so I cut them in half lengthwise,
then in half the crosswise, using only a half strip a night, no dunking; licking is enough.
I place them up against the corners of my mouth, leaving a small gap in the middle.
Interestingly, I find my salivary glands working overtime if I get woozy,
making them quite loose before any 'event'. (individual mileage may vary)

I tried the Poligrip band last night. I followed your instuctions I put it on the sides of the mouth letting the center without it. In the middle of the night I managed to start motor boarding My salivary glands too worked over time at some moments.

THE GOOD: I had a very low AHI, I see only one time when the leaks goes high and then all goes to very very low again, the 95% pressure was quite low, I didn't taste the card board taste (the mouth wash is stronger than that ), It stayed glued until the morning, very good for the first try .

Today I will try Chunkyfrog's technique; I will cut lengthwise the band and I will put some in the center of the lips. I felt the piece was a bit wide and I was able to feel it against the tongue.

Thanks guys
