ResMed Nasal Gel Mask

Post by GregDoering » Sat Jun 23, 2012 4:02 pm

I have worn a Comfort Classic(Philips) since first diagnosed. I invented the "Oris Perfect Seal" (you can google to check it out); to prevent air leakage from under my moustache. Since researching other options (tired of making the device) it looks like there are other more convenient options. I am ready to replace current mask with insurance annual check up. The ResMed comfort gel (mirage?) mask looks like a good option. Any opinions or advice?
Thanks! Greg

Greg, after a year of trying full face masks I ended up with the Resmed Mirage Softgel nasal mask, and a chinstrap, as best for me. I get unbelievable good results with it with almost zero leaks. I don't have a moustache. The Resmed Activa and Respironics Blue are built similarly. A big plus in this mask is that the intentional vent holes are only a few and tiny. So, imo, you get a PEEP or Provent effect during exhalation.

I really like my Swift FX nasal pillow mask. I also wear a chinstrap. Have a mustache and goatee and find the nasal pillows working the best and really like not having my whole face covered but that's just me...

I've worn the Soft Gel mask for I guess around two years now. It's my favorite after the basic ACTIVA mask and it uses the same ResMed LT frame. (In another thread, I've asked if there is something newer and better -- not that I am complaining.)

As you may know, the basic Mirage ACTIVA mask was designed to allow a great seal without hardly any headgear tension. The Soft Gel is similar in that you don't need the headgear to be very tight. I think I ended up making it just a little bit more snug than the ACTIVA. Getting rid of headgear tension is half the battle in finding a comfortable mask. The improvements in comfort over the years are dramatic. I remember how big a deal it was when the first "bubble" mask arrived on the scene. I think it was called the Sullivan Bubble. But the selection today, from all the different companies, is wonderful.

I read that the inventor of the Sleepweaver has a beard, invented it for himself, and claims to wear it regularly.
