Molding ComfortGel Masks

Post by vancegate » Wed Jun 20, 2012 10:48 pm

Can you still use hot water to mold Respironics ComfortGel masks? I can't find anything about it on their web site. Has anyone done it with success or failure?

Not on the new ComfortGel Blue masks. If you have one of the old ComfortGel cushions, they work the same way they always did. BTW, the cushions are interchangeable between blue and non-blue ComfortGel.

Thanks Archangle! I have a new ComfortGel Full. I wonder if it is considered a blue. It doesn't have Blue in the name.

On the new 'blue' mask, the gel cushion has a stiff, CLEAR base, instead of the dark blue base of the original.
The elbows look very different, too. The new one is curved with a light blue oval set into the elbow.
The oval has the exhaust vents in it. The diameter of the swivel is smaller than the old one.
The old elbow is one piece, all clear, angled, with holes in the large flat area above the AA valve.
The new frame also has extra ribs on the outside from the bottom headgear pin to the swivel.

On mine, the frame has "ComfortGel Blue" written on the frame in white/gray text. It's on the side of the plastic shell. "Right in terms of being close to your right eye when you wear it. The plastic vent hole insert is gray on mine. There's a part number just above your nose on the frame. Mine says 1070038, but that varies with mask size.

The new cushions have a number stamped into the clear plastic base. You have to get the light just right to see it. Mine says 100922 plus "M" for medium. The numbers don't seem to be listed anywhere. Respironics lists a part number for the cushions, but it's different, probably the order number for the cushion and sealed package for resale.

I defer to you, I've only seen the photos--the oval looked blue to me.
It was my impression that only the ComfortGel nasal mask that could be boiled;
but I'm getting out my alien egg thingy.

Are we talking about the same "oval?" Mine looks grey like this.

I agree, no boiling on the blue. I recall reading somewhere that they aren't boilable. Probably Respironics or a supplier's web site.

What color is your alien egg thingy?
