World Record For Sleep Apnea

Just wondering, not trying to brag, I assure you, wish I didn't have sleep apnea. But I have 101 sleep apnea's per hour including 9 CNS. I'm told by medigas (my CPAP supplier) that I'm there second highest (at least in Toronto). Weigh 220 pounds 5'9. Does anybody have more? I realize my number is very serious. Anyone else have 100 + apnea's. Got my CPAP a year ago and still exhausted when I wake up. Going for new titration study, have gained weight since last. Just curios what the world record is. Anybody use BiPAP, maybe I should be on that. My pressure is at 17 out of 20 (not sure of specific measurement).

Please take a moment to create a profile and add your equipment. An AHI of >30 is definitively severe. A score of 101 is the equivalent of one event every 36 seconds.

Yeah, I did not do the math but that probably is one every 36 seconds. So you probably did not have any very long apneas.

Not to discount arousals and severe sleep deprivation - they are serious, but it is the very long apneas that do the big damage.

If I wanted to publish something in Guinness I would go for the longest apnea.

I have seen here that people had apneas approaching two minutes long. Get several of those back to back and you have brain damage.

On my side I averaged 93 an hour, on my back something like 123 an hour.

Basically I was not breathing about 1/3 of the time I was asleep.

A friend asked me the other day how it felt to have apnea -- told them to hold their breath for one minute and then breathe for 2 minutes, they said that wasn't bad -- Then I told them to keep it up for 8 hours and then come back and talk to me -- they decided there was a reason I used to feel like crap!

Not quite that high for me - 96/hr average - still severe enough.

I'm formerly guest "justwondering". Now a member "insomniacInToronto". Yup I calculated every 36 seconds as well, but maybe there all but gone now. My leakage though is 111.6L/min. I posted new topic called "Leakage at 111.6L/min, is this bad, please help". Thanks for replies and warm welcome to cpaptalk. Guess I'll be a regular now. Wasn't thinking of applying to Guiness world records, just wondered how I fared. Sorry to those who don't breath for minutes or more, that's ruff and dangerous. I guess I'm a lucky that my apneas don't last long, my oxygen levels, I believe, never fell below critical levels, and one sleep doctor said I do not have long term (brain) damage due to being undiagnosed for 25 years or so. I have seen people reporting that their diagnostic sleep studies have reported AHI near 200.
Lots of people with averages of 150 or so per hour.
There is a pole somewhere in the forum archives where people posted their diagnostic sleep study AHI just to compare.
There were some really high numbers reported.

In absolute terms, 360 is the upper limit.

You have very high leaks but you'd need to see the graphs to tell if they're for a short period or all night. S9 uses 24 lpm as a guideline for acceptable leaks. With leaks in the 100 range your data may not be reliable. What is your AHI? Check Uncle_Bob or Pugsy signature for info about software. With a high pressure of 17cms you might do better on Bipap. Then there's the question of your sleep hygiene. We've got a lot of work to do with you so welcome!
