Poor Quality Swift FX Nasal Pillow

Post by KimberlyM » Mon Jun 18, 2012 4:46 pm

I bought a new Swift FX nasal pillow from my medical equipment supplier and it is a thinner material than my old pillows. When I washed it with my old pillows, it was more see-through. I used it for two nights now and it won't stay sealed. I had previously bought 12 pillows from an Ebay seller and those were great and have kept me in supply for a year. Has anyone noticed a huge change in the quality of the FX nasal pillows, or did I just get a bad one?

Well, thirty-five people have looked at this and no one has commented, so I guess it was just a fluke that I got a pillow that is different from the others.

I was one of those that looked. I haven't bought any nasal pillows from the DME in quite a while.
I haven't noticed anything because I haven't bought anything for a while...so really didn't have anything to say.
I got a good deal on a bulk purchase on Ebay a while back and just haven't gone back to the DME.
The ones I got on EBay last..were like yours...no different from past purchases.

I was going to go to the DME today but ended up not getting to the town where they are so didn't make it.
Should I get over there in the next few days when they are open, I will make sure to pick up a replacement pillow to see if the ones they have are any different and I will let you know.

I haven't noticed any change and certainly hope this is a fluke. Can you call/ write an email to ResMed customer service?

You know what I would do in this situation. I would take the new see through thin one along with on of the old "new" pillows an march my self right down to them and plop them out on the table and ask to see some of their other stock...she how they compare. If they have a bunch more like them, then maybe they will do some calling.

I haven't put my recent replacement next to my old pillows. However, the recent replacement pillows I got from my DME do feel different than the originals that came with my mask. The markings on them are the same, but they are not as comfortable. I would use both the medium or the large depending on how my sinuses were behaving. With the replacement pillows I received I can't use the medium and the large is giving me a little more leakage. I was hoping it was a fluke. I think they feel stiffer than the others I have.

Expendable health care items of all sorts that have high profit margins are subject to being counterfeited by our Chinese friends. I got bit on some Gillette razor blades a few years ago. I would not be the least bit surprised if a lot of the pillows being sold on eBay are counterfeit. In fact, I would be truly surprised if they are not. I also would not be surprised if DMEs, both knowingly and unknowingly, are selling counterfeit pillows.

I'm not saying any of the ones you guys have gotten are counterfeit, but it is possible. The problem is with nasal pillows I don't know if there is any way to distinguish by just looking which are which.

I wish I could do that. My DME used to have a local office, but now they are about 50 miles away. They are sending me another one. I will have to compare them.

This is what I noticed too. I washed it really well yesterday and it sealed a little better, but it is not as comfortable and it still leaked. I hope they haven't redesigned them.

I just ordered a new one from our hosts.
Just too lazy to boil a few of the old ones.
(or gotta get a "round tuit")

I have had problems with the nasal pillow leaking around the short tube connection. Sometimes I get a new pillow that does this and it annoys me greatly as it blows on my face.

I'll use a "tube leaker" pillow for two weeks and then I toss it. No, I don't think the quality control is very good on replacement parts. And I've bought pillows from several different sources; all seem to send me the occasional "tube leaker."

Duh, it just dawned on me that this particular pillow came with a new mask, so it is straight from the manufacturer. It isn't a Chinese imitation, as someone thought it could be.

Did you get the other 2 sizes in the mask package (which normally comes with the whole mask setup) and were they of the same quality?

At least one of the local DME's strip out the 'extra' sizes; withholding them from the patient who PAID for everything.
--One more pointed question to ask a prospective DME.--and write down the answer.
